We bought Dolly a few years ago. I'd known her for a few years before that. She'd come from Beeston market to a riding school, where it very soon became apparent that she'd been drugged at the auction. She was wild! The RS wanted to re-drug her and send her back, so i stepped in. Me & sis took over her care and turned her into the most cuddly little pony! She stayed at the RS for a couple of years, then we bought her.
I'm 22 years old and 5' 5", so i knew she wasnt ideal, but i felt i was the only one who understood her and didnt want her to be constantly sold on once she'd been outgrown. After Murphy was put to sleep in May 06, she helped me get over him and we had a fab summer! She's a really brave little thing - loves to be infront on hacks. Loved fun rides. Just loves attention really.
She had a couple of issues - a very sore back and some dodgy hormones, but physio and regumate soon fixed that!
Then Anakin (fellow forum member on here!) lost her mare a couple of weeks after foaling, so Dolly went to play foster mum to Apollo. Whilst she was there, i found her next loan home. After about 5 months with Apollo, she went on full loan to a private home, where she was a suprise for a 6 year old girl.
I've just had a call from the mum, saying that they're going to have to send Doll back to us.

She's just "too sharp" for the daughter to handle.

And her daughter is too young to be able to read equine body language properly. To me, it sounds like they've been creeping round her (like PLACING her rug on her back, then slowly rolling it down, whereas i just launch them on!!), so whenever they've made a sudden movement, Doll's got nervous and is acting like she's about to get a beating.

So now i dont know what to do! My sister's going travelling on April 1st for one year, so i've got the other 2 horses to look after and keep in full work on my own, as well as work full time. At the moment, i'm not financially stable enough to have a 3rd horse on DIY livery, as well as insure her and everything.

The lady who's got her now has said to advertise her for full loan again as a second pony, or put her in foal. I'd LOVE a foal, but i wouldnt be able to part with it and i dont need another little pony!!! So i need a loan home, but it's an absolute NIGHTMARE trying to find a confident jockey!! Or possibly a broodmare loan??

Where do i advertise? How do i write it without putting people off? She needs bringing back into work, as they've not done much with her now, but once she's back into a routine she's fab! Got one hell of a jump on her too!

Mum's saying to sell her, but that made me cry. I'm so upset. I'd love to be able to keep her as a pet and not have to worry about forking out loads of money on something that i dont have time to ride, but i just cant.

Any ideas anyone??

She looks a super pony in your pics. Thats the trouble with little ponies and adult riders - they are good as gold until you put an inexperienced child on them and then they have a field day!!

You could try the Pony Club website or local riding club where you might find a child who wants to compete.

shame your so far away, she would be perfect for my 8 year old who's about to out grow her 11.1hh

12.2 is too big for a section a isn't it? I thought they stopped at 12hh... She does look gorgeous tho - too small for me unfortunately

Asbo - feel free to move house!!!

Yes, she's not registered or anything but we're guessing she's mostly section A, with possibly some B in her. That's just a guess though.

She looks a really lovely little pony, who may suit a child with a more knowledgable background i.e Pony Club.

Try the Cheshire Hunt North or Cheshire Hunt South Pony Clubs I'm sure you could find someone who would be suitable for her. I'm from quite a large yard in South Cheshire, I'll have an ask around as there are alot of capable youngsters on our yard.

I'd second trying to go through your local pony club - as you're more likely to get experienced families who know what they want.

You can find out details of your local branch here...

http://www.pcuk.org/find_branch.html

YOu could also put an advert on www.horsequest.co.uk they have a dedicated For Loan section. Just say that you want her to go to a family that's experienced with horses/ponies and that she's an ideal second pony/pony club/competition pony. You can give more details when people phone to enquire.

Good luck - she looks lovely!

I'd defo try the pony club website. I've just loaned out my 12:3 and although he was a first/second pony type I had loads of enquries from people wanting a more fizzy pony.
As long as your description is honest and up front you may just find the person your looking for.

Thank you everyone! She's just so special to me - i could never sell her. I'd always wonder where she'd gone.

I'm on the PC website now, so i'll deffinately put an ad on there.

And the_watcher - thank you! I agree! She's always been placed 1st or 2nd whenever we've taken her to shows (1 leadrein class and the rest were in-hand). She's a pretty girlie!

Oh the stress!!

Does she get laminitis?

I an quietly looking for a smallish pony who's duty in life would be to travel to shows to keep the competing boys company (so they don't bellow at each other). However want one who can cope with ad lib food and no work!

She's never had lami while i've known her. We did soak her hay to death though (when she was stabled), and she wore a muzzle for part of the spring/summer (she lived out - wore the muzzle in the day, off at night). She IS a fatty, but *touch wood* no lami! As you can see in the pics, we have quite green paddocks, but she was fine.

I completely agree with suggestions about the pony club website. It's very cheap too to advertise. Be super honest about the pony's quirks (as she would be ridden by children) and ask for an experienced home only with other horses. Expect pony club mums to ask for a trial period of a couple of weeks and take up a reference on the home through the DC of the branch or one of the branch's senior instructers. We've used this method before and met some really nice people who absolutely know what they are doing. Best of luck - she looks like a lovely cheeky poppet! PS take care you don't fall foul of the "we want a pony for the summer" type arrangement - it means you get her back just when the hard work in winter starts.

Oh no Lou, I'm gutted it didnt work out for her. She really is lovely to look after and did an amazing job with Apollo.

I remember you were thinking of sending her away to a producer? Perhaps you could do that now, and then she might be suitable for more novicey children come the spring if you see what I mean? I take it she didn't do anything naughty, but just scared them? How awful for you, I hope the pony club thing works out. xx

What a gorgeus pony! Just a word of advice, I understand she has ben abused, which might explain some of her behavior but don't breed from a mare that has had hormone problems and behavioural issues, you might then be stuck with 2 horses you can't get rid of and imagine how pregnancy might affect her moods?!
good luck with finding a nice home for her.

Reading this post was like reading my mind!! I need exactly the same kind of home for my 13hh pony. She sounds so like yours, been ridden by adults mostly and therefore not a novice child's ride. She has also been off work due to no rider for a fair while and has been acting as a companion for mine, but needs to do a bit more. Like you though, I only want her to go to a knowledgable home as she can be a bit cheeky and has had lami so needs to be properly managed.
Had you considered a companion home? Or do you think she would get bored?
Think I might try the pony club website too. Best of luck finding somewhere for yours!!

Thanks everyone again!

I'm not sure about a companion home. She DOES love attention and seems to really enjoy being ridden, but i'm sure all horses just want to be in a field really!

And dont worry, although i think her temperament is wonderful, i doubt we'd breed from her. I think the hormone thing was a phantom pregnancy - she got caught by an escapee colt!

There are enough horses in the world already!

Anne, sorry i've not PMed you back yet! Will do asap!

Yeah, i was going to send her to some show pony people after she'd been with you, but these people wanted her straight away, so i didnt. Dont have the money right now but if i cant find anywhere i'll send her for schooling. Although i suppose i could do it myself if it came down to it. It's getting lighter now, so it's feasible.
No, she's not done anything dangerous or naughty, but she's a fidget and they just dont trust her. To me, she's just a typical cheeky little pony but they dont want that.

I'm gonna go and write an advert now, then start advertising her tomorrow. Will deffinately put her on the pony club though. A trial period is fine. I'm really fussy about my horsies, and particularly protective of Dolly, so a trial is a must!

Emma_C - good luck with your pony too!
