Right i know there is split decisions on this but i am still putting my rug on my horse he is out 24/7 a tbx and needs abit more weight on him.

I don't know what to do for the best as the weather keeps bloody changing one minute its sunshine and the next it is pelting it down with rain.

What have you lot done?

I also have a TBx who is a nightmare to keep weight on, she has her lightweight on at the mo during the day and depending on the temp she either has her woolley rug on or lightweight stable rug at night.

I am constantly checking the weather reports though so i know what rugs to put on. I dont usually put anything thicker on her though as its still quite muggy and she gets hot.

At weekends if it looks nice and i know its not going to rain then she has her rugs off as i can keep an eye on her.

She was going out naked before the weather turned rubbish again

i think you'd be better off feeding some more to put weight on . if your horse gets sweaty with a rug it will only lose more weight. Cheap nuts will surfice with a low protein level. maybe 3 times a day! (worm & have teeth done)......

My TB x (always on the slim side, but very woosy and shivers if it rains!) usually lives in his Amigo lightweight turnout, its brilliant. Has no filling in it (so not warm at all) but keeps him bone dry if it does rain (which is what makes them cold).

I only take it off during the day if its not threatening to rain (or Im around all day to chuck it back on if need be). Occassionally I leave it off overnight (he lives out 24/7) but only if its really warm and no rain is forecast.
