I don't know what to do for the best. I really have lost interest in riding. We have c**p hacking in this area. I have no one to hack out with. The traffic is awful.

I really feel I want my boy to retire here. He is sixteen years old. I enjoy looking after him.
 
I voted find someone to hack out with, but that isn't really what I meant. If I were you, I'd simply move to a yard which does have good hacking, and more people to ride out with.
 
I voted find someone to hack out with - but I'd say try moving to another yard with better hacking/facilities and hopefully just have some fun with your horse and you may find someone to hack out with too
 
My boy lives at home so would be difficult to justify paying for livery, and I would hate it, having been on livery yards in the past. I realise not all livery yards are the same but I've had some awful experiences.
 
Join your local riding club, or start one in the area

It does not have to be competetive at all. Ours does do local show and points show, but also does social rides, which are great fun, plus you get to meet other local riders who want some one to hack out with.
 
Ditto all the others who said move to somewhere with better hacking. If its the cost then you could always hire out your own facilites to help pay towards you being somewhere with better hacking. If you move to a nice yard you could always still get a sharer to lighten the load/cost. Let's face it the worst case scenario is you move back home but you could find a gem of a yard with lovely liveries and excellent hacking, you could get another 10+ years out of your horse and he could STILL come home for his twilight years.

I think you've said it all yourself here. You sound very negative about it all and with that in mind, I voted for sell him.
