A few weeks ago Axel developed a boot rub on the outside of his left hind, it was pretty sore so I rode him without back boots on, so then he knocked into himself and cut his leg on the inside on the fetlock

I have been putting dermagel on it and turning him out as usual but now the 2 area's have developed these really horrible mud fevery type scabs on. I washed it in hibiscrub and picked the scabs off, put dermagel on and kept him in. His hind leg swelled right up and both area's look very sore and weepy.
So I put some camrosa on and turned him out, the swelling went down and they both looked ok, dry and not so sore but today when I washed the area again it's even more scabby in a bigger area! So I hibiscrubbed it, dryed it off and put dermagel on and have kept him in, but this time with bandages on his back legs.

Anyway the point is what else shall I do? Keep him in or out? Bandaged or not? What shall I put on it?
Sorry if I sound like a complete muppet but this really has me stumped! And everything I normally do that works hasn't

I have also put sudocrem on them before I bought the dermagel which was recommended to me by my friend.

Souds like he may need a vet visit to prescribe something stronger like flamazine or even antibiotics.
You could try a sausage boot to prevent fetlock bashes in future.

Sounds like he has developed mud fever around the wound site. It not uncommon at this time of year. He might need some anti-b's to get it under control, so I'd give the Vet a call.

This is precisely how Thumper developed mud fever last year - from boots rubbing.

I'd get the vet to prescrive you some Flamazine. It was the only thing that shifted Thumper's MF.
