dealer on my yard has a palomino section A filly for sale for £250 and me and my daughter(6) have fallen in love with her! but I'm expecting my 3rd baby in march next year (need to get confirmed dates yet) got 9 month old and my boy all ready so i don't know if i should offer money for her or let her go! i don't know what i should do don't really need another right now but daughters old pony died 3 years ago from laminitis (was put down) and shes really wanting another! we used to do some local shows in hand and would love to do it again but i don't know if i can spare £250 right now! gah why is it never easy! also think my OH would leave me if i got another i cant say its not mine as he insists when hes up there to do Benson as well hes not horsey but getting there!

You have 2 very young children & one on the way & a horse already. I honestly think that you are leting your heart rule your head. The buying of a horse, as we all know, is the easy bit, paying to keep it & having the time to look after it is the difficult bit. Remember that looking after the pony will be down to you to supervise, your daughter is only 6.

You know from your previous children how much time or should I say little time you have. Can you honestly say you can both afford the pony in both financial up keep & time?

I would say don't have the pony..... but I am a bloke & with a blokes reasoning.

i know that 95% of care will be me i also know from having kids ponies for my daughter the time and effort im sure we would manage but wouldnt leave much room for if a problem should arise think your right best i leave it

Would you be even considering it, if the price were £2k?

It seems that the small asking price is tempting you, in a way I can see your point, but you've got a good couple of yrs before you know whether it's going to be sensible enough for your kids under saddle.

I'm assuming its a babe and hence not broken. It will cost the same amount to keep as a broken pony that your daughter would be able to do more with and by the time you can break it it will have cost you more than buying something more made.

If you are thinking you cannot afford 250 I wouldn't be buying it.

I wouldnt buy such a young pony.

Mum did similar for me - she bought a little Section B foal when I was three years old, in the hope that when I was 7/8 I'd grow into him and we'd be able to learn together. But as a young pony he was much too sharp for me, and we ended up selling him and getting an elderly New Forest who was far better for me at that time!

Why dont you look for an older pony, something that your daughter can ride and take to shows now, and that your younger children will then be able to take on when they're a bit older?

yeah shes only a baby so looken at 3-4 years before we can break her. not price thats tempting me its the face on her! shes gorg! 2grand pony i would consider but thinking on how my yard is going at mo dont know if i want youngster in field with thoses fencing, mabey a older horse is better and possibly something sthat will be slightly bigger hard one ill have to think on it but this filly will be missed on my part just hope she goes to a good home

Section As IMO can either be absolute angels or, like some who shall be nameless, totally cheeky and always testing the rider/handler to the limit. For under 10s I'd think you're better off saving your ££ now and putting aside the ££ you'd spend on livery for a couple of years and getting a proven angel type then, that can do as LR and/or first ridden for all of your kids.

Dont go there ! As mum with young children I made a big mistake buying a youngster plus you really dont need the extra work with a baby on the way .I let my heart rule my head and regret it !

thanks everyone for advice OH just made good comment as well and that's that i could get kicked in stomach from youngster (my boy wouldn't hurt fly) o yeah I'm gonna let it go

thank you all u talked some sense into me
