At my yard there are 3 of us on grass livery. (The other 2 share a paddock next door to Roo)
One of those horses is for sale, the other is moving yards.

So when they leave, Roo will be the only horse turned out on a night. The part and full livery horses are in an american barn on the other side of arena, so not in sight of her.

Don't want to move yards, but do I really have a choice?

Don't know if it would be better to move :/ she's been on her own with horses in near by paddocks since February, and I'm not sure if that's fair on her :s
I'm just rather confused, guess I have a lot of thinking to do.

Just try her and see how she gets on. Will she be with/near other horses during the day?

Perhaps have her out on her own now and again until they leave (when they are both riding perhaps?) so she gets used to it.

Does she have to be out? Is there another horse that may be ok out? Or would it be feasible to get a companion on loan? You've probably thought of all this, but you never know until you've talked to people. If you like the yard then changing yards is a faff. You never quite know what you're going to get at next place.

As post above as well, some horses are fine even if they can't see other horses.

Having said that moving is a faff if you have doubts about yard it could be the best way, you just shouldn't feel it's your only option. I guess it depends on whether you feel your horse is happy that's the main thing.

girlmoose: at this yard she has to be out as there is no spare stables. And none of the other liveries will allow their horse to live out although some could.

I suppose I could just see how she gets on, as through the day horses will be nearby.

I might go look at a few yards just so that if it doesn't work out I know what options there are :/

Sounds like a good idea, you never know she may fine being on her own during the night once she gets into a routine? if you leave her with some hay and a bucket feed?

Have been in this situation....

Are the grass livery spaces now available for new tenants? Can you sit tight and hope she copes ok while waiting for a new person? Can you help advertise the spaces to speed things up?

Agree that you should look for new yards in the meantime though (I did end up moving and the new place was loads better...).

RG - have you spoke to the YO about this and expressed your concerns? The horse for sale may not sell for months. Your YO may well have a plan in place as I doubt they will want an upset livery/horse trashing fields. :)

As others have said try and get her used to being on her own - we had one here who stayed out on his own - quite happy after a couple of days as he would have his bucket of feed and a small haystack to occupy him :D

Poor you :( I would go and see a few yards and explain the situation. You could even put a small holding deposit on your preferred yard for a month or so (at least you would get first refusal if someone else approached them).

At least that way if you are in a situation where your horse isn't settling you have somewhere to go at short notice.

You may even find looking around that you find a perfect yard and want to move regardless.

Good luck though, I hope you get it sorted one way or another, :)
