In short I can't decided if I should keep or sell my youngster (piebald below)?

-here is why, I'm now not sure he is going to be what i want, i've had him since he was 1 1/2yrs old he is 4 this year, I have done all groundwork with him and sat on him last year stayed in walk, he knows - go, stop, turning and is fine in all traffic ridden and in hand, is strong in hand though. The plan is to start riding him again once evenings are light enough so I don't have to use the school lights. But.... since having mystic (Skewbald below) and going to shows- SJ & dressage and starting to do ODE's and planning on doing more I would like something I can continue to do this on once Mystic is too old for it (he is 18 this year) but I still want something I have backed and brought on myself. I'm not sure the youngster is going to be the type to be doing all this really :(

What are your thoughts?
Sorry should have added Youngster is a traditional cob and Mystic a Irish sports horse (well pony)

It's horses for courses - he may well not be what you want, but he should be great for someone else. I would at least put a few local ads out. It's not a great climate for selling but you won't know until you try.

If the right home comes along then you can sell and buy another youngster, maybe one ready to be backed, and if you don't sell him then continue with his education until a buyer appears or until he has done a bit more, when it would be worth properly advertising him. At 4 he might be too green for most people, but in 6 months with a few outings under his belt he should be more saleable.

He sounds like hes doing really well, and like the above posted said, he would be a great horse for someone else.
My only question is, What level are you competing at? If it's at a fiarly low level then I see no reason as to why he couldnt be capable of that? Maybe you should keep him for a while and see how it pans out. x

I've been thinking about this all day and I don't want to rush into a decision as it would be hard to sell him (think im getting softer as i get older), I think I will start riding him again (he has not been ridden over winter, just lunged and led of my other pony hacking) and see how he goes, hopefully all will go well.
I go to local shows (dressage and show jumping) and ODE's all unafilliated

How can you make an informed decision until he is broken in and working - ie in a year's time at least. You don't know what he is going to be like yet! We have a gypsy cob pony that looks nothing special, but who wipes the floor with bigger posher horses at show and events. In various classes, from dressage, SJ, XC, WH to games and handy pony.... I'd wait a bit and see. He would be worth more with some experience anyway.
