Having only advertised Archie for loan this week, I have been inundated with emails, phone calls, the lot! And now its starting to hit home that he's going way and I just feel sick at the thought of it

Ive had him since he was 4 and Ive taught him pretty much every thing. I just dont know what to do now, I gonna miss him so much and will worry ALL the time!!
How do others cope with loaning out their horse?
A very sad MoonWalker!

Ohh bless you how horrible. Why are you having to loan him? xx

Dunno really!! I guess I just dont have time for him at the mo, coz he needs riding alot more than I can at the mo, what with all the wedding plans.

I feel happy after the event when i see the horse settled, happy and loved. When its going i am very upset and after until i know it has gone well.
Loaning him you are still the owner and can jump in if things are not right, i would be more worried selling.
Take your time finding the right person for Archie it will help.
Good luck and hugs.

Doesn't seem like enough reason to me.

Turn him away until you get married.

You don't have to loan him out - so don't.

Be strong..... youve weighed up the options and you are doing it for the best

I think its best for him to go to another yard coz otherwise you will too close to him and his new owner (I know if it were me Id be too nosey with new people and probably try to interfear to much

Chin up luv - its best for both of you

Why don't you just try getting a sharer first rather than putting him on full loan. I was struggling with my horse so I put an advert on Horse Mart for a sharer and found someone lovely. I found it hard enough deciding to get a sharer and once I found someone nice it's worked out perfectly. You never know they might want to do more which would give you more time but then he is still there for you as well. It's much less stressful than putting you horse on full loan etc.

I would be a nightmare

Sorry to hear you have decided to let Archie go on loan, it must be areally tough decision for you. As a matter of interest, where di you advertise him to get such a good response? I need to put a couple of mine out on loan as struggling with time but rarely seem to get much response around here

When I went to Uni I loaned out my little SJ. He was my baby and I'd had him since he was 4 too. He was in a real state when I first got him too. I didn't have the heartache of advertising him though as a friend of a friend lost her horse and wanted him. When it was getting closer though I started thinking I couldn't do it. He went and once he was there I knew it was the right thing. He was happy nad the lady kept in touch and a couple of years later I sold him to her as I knew I'd never be able to give him the Million Dollar lifestyle to which he'd become accustomed!
Remeber why you are doing it and I'm sure you'll make sure it's the perfect home.

He's on Horsemart. The phone hasnt stopped ringing!

Where abouts are you based? Is it MK? or did i imagine that? I have advertised my mare for share and got lots of info i'm in Beds, but then i decided i couldn't go through with it :-)

Ultimately, if it's a loan you can always get him back if you're not happy. But I'm sure he'll be fine! Just make sure you vet people very carefully!!

Big hugs for having to do something so hard xxx

Make sure that you have a loan agreament in place and also my advice would be that he is vetted so that both the new owners and yourself can demonstrate in what condition he was at the point of time when loaning him out. Also make sure that you set site and have a copy of the new owners driving license and passport and a rates bill so that you have evidence of who they are and where they live. Might sound nonsense to you but many a loan horse has disapeared.
