I have been told our bales of hay are going from £15 to £30 and he won't have enough to last the winter, I have 3 to feed day and night, they are out in small paddocks during the day but there is no grass, so go through at least 2 bales a month.
I recently found out my riding instructor (5 min walk from our yard) is prepared to let out some of her fields at £10 per week.
Now im thinking would it be cheaper (also considering he may run out of hay and i wouldn't have to pay so much for bedding) to rent a field at £10 a week (assume its per horse) and turn two out 24/7, I would still have to pay YO to keep our place at the yard and use school etc and would still have the option of bringing them into stables if needed. I would still keep one in at night on the yard as he is a wimp and older.
I don't want to annoy the YO if i was to do this, he has been quite good to us in the past.
What do you think?
