How am I ment to keep my horse sane in winter?

Can't ride her in the (galeforse)wind incase she puts me in front of a car and on the odd day it's not overly windy she's that wound up from not being ridden because of the wind that she puts me in front on cars anyway?! grrrr

I love riding her when she's good but I am seriously considering leaving her till easter then bringing her back in to work. I HATE not having facitities! Because we have limited land we have to manage it well which means I can't ride in any of the fields in the winter as we need them in good nick for summer. Hacking is generally pants because I have to take a very dangerous road if I want to get anywhere other than around the block. I can get to the beach but my horse is a real **** on the beach and 100 times worse in the wind. Very almost had me off today [:(!]

Grrrrr and I'm this far *gestures with hand** from strapping her head down with duck tape! Why does my horse insist on being a girraffe!! Nothing I do seems to help convince her she would like to start looking a little more like a horse.

Pointless post, just would do anything right now for a sand school!
 
I am in the exact same situation!! I have to leave mine until spring time ish until I can bring mine back into work as he cannot just ben ridden during the weekend out on a hack as he is insane, but cannot ride out during the week or in the fields, I hate having no facilities!
 
I hate not having a school but I think I'd hate being on a livery yard more!

As Nic01 says, I also hate not having a school, especially when I have a green horse I'm trying to school. We're schooling on the roads at the mo, but theres a distinct lack of space to practice circles! Car drivers think we're mad as it is.

Even on a bad day if I weigh up having my own little rented yard compared to being back at livery theres no contest!!
 
I have mine at home with no menage, work full time and weekends the horses can be monsters in the wind. So, my old mare wont be ridden until end of this month, or mid Feb, she has the winter rested.

My younger one has just been clipped for the first time today and I have boxed her to a hired menage. Thats about all I can do at weekends with the wind etc.

I know how you feel, but as from today I am going to try and make every weekend count and by having her clipped out it gives me that push I have been needing.
 
i do at this time of year but its great in the summer and i still wouldnt move. its nice not to get invoved in yard politics and do your own thing,and i think lots of people feel fed up with all the hard work and not much fun at this time of year ,itll improve soon.
 
We've got my friends horses living out 24/7 in 2 fields... we have no school as it hasn't been built yet- we're having a post and rail fenced bit for a school... they've been out of work since the beginning of november. They'll be coming back into work in the next week... but the weather still isn't brilliant.

Roll on summer is what I say!
 
Really hate it, glad that there are some of us in the same boat! Managed to ride around the field yesterday, but would love a menage, thinking about just post n railing an area off so have a "school" for my youngster as sure he gets confused "working" in the same field he "plays" in...!

I know what you mean, before we moved to our current yard we had limited facilities for winter riding. Most evenings were spent grooming, walking out inhand and some limited long reining (which we found very benificial). Weekends were spent hacking, hiring a school or schooling on local beach just 5 mins down the road. Getting out to Pony Club once a week helped conciderably, but obviously not an option for everyone. Would it be possible to make a lunge area for yourself, that way a couple of 15mins lunging a week would help.. very frustrating, roll on summer!!
