Don't you just wish you could name and shame!!

ahhh but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire lie down and take it and your just another victim haha sledge hammer at the door with oh and father uncles and brothers would work a treat hehe the law doest protect you we are just every day people working for a liveing and paying bills no one should steal from you

That would have been my way too!! Be just as outrageous as they were, you steal from me, I steal back :) haha!

Its very true about the law and it has certainly given me a wake up call, you aren't as protected as you think you are.

I'd have no qualms about pming the name of anyone to avoid and have done so. I don't worry about the poster being the dealer either, what can they do even if it is. Maybe it'll be a wake up call that people are onto them and if they want to remain in business they'll clean up their act.

As long as you have proof of whats happened it saves heartache for someone else and the upshot is if rogue dealers are identified and put out of business there is more chance genuine dealers will catch that business.

Don't always assume bad dealers are back street boys in flat caps living up some dirt track either, some are high profile people who you would assume have a lot to lose but they are complete narcissists who have no understanding they have done anything wrong.

My view is that if the industry won't do anything to help buyers we have to help ourselves.

Whats that saying' if you've nothing to hide you've nothing to fear'.

Here here is all I can say!!

Can you not run the country??? :p

well said and NOOOO they all arent back street boys 7k my friend got stung for from a well known name when buying the horse he had all the time in the world to take phone calls off her then when it went lame and her vet found the problem his horrible wife took the phone calls and told her then he wasnt the owner he was only the agent

If only we could name and shame, as the 'dealer' (as seems to now have a couple of horses for sale) i thought were normal farmers at time. almost starved my boy to death - hence reported to the rspca. did they do anything?? nope even the vet was backing the case.

love it good on you not many have a story youl be able to tell

We were refunded all the money for the pony, plus livery and farrier fees from the date of our first letter as the 'dealer' was trying to ignore the recorded delivery letters. The funniest thing was, the 'dealer' claimed she had no monies

so the court made her pay in installments by direct debit. It took her 3years to pay everything off.

Thats where courts are limited really in that if they allow her 3 years to pay it may mean someone may have to wait all that time before they can buy again or find another purchase price themselves.

I'm sure most would settle out of court, particularly if they are a 'name'.

I don't think you can even name the dealer/vet on this board guys - they would threaten the admin and your post would disappear off pronto.

So - how about saying - bad exp with dealer/agent/vet in (as an example) the Guildford area - then people can pm you to find out OR lightbulb moment

How about a sticky with the dealers we DO like.

So Emma from Clip Clop traders only ever gets praise and thanks.. I don't know her and have never bought from her but she is regularly named as a good dealer on here...

I do agree that there are some circumstances in which people should be named and shamed, I honestly do. There are some people out there who have no interest other than making money, no matter how it impacts on others.

However, at the same time, naming and shaming can be extremely damaging to a dealer who does not get the oppertunity to portray their side of the arguement. I speak from personal experience, for example people buying a high level competition sport horse who we exercise 6 days a week, the customers knowing this for well, then ringing 3 weeks later to say its turned into a loony bin and isn't as we sold it. It often then transpires the horse has been bought as a statement or showpiece, has had little or no exercise, and been fed enough sugary stuff to hype it up to the sky. These people then come on forums, slagging off the dealer, saying said dealer must have doped the horse etc.

I think the point is people will often let emotion over run them and get carried away. As I said, some cases are clear cut. However, there was a case recently of a horse which went out on loan and two weeks later the owner found skin and bones, and it was put down. It went all over facebook, all over here, with the loaner being named and shamed. If I remember correctly, it later transpired there were several flaws in the story, and a few things had been stated incorrectly, but by this point the damage to the loanees name was done.

Just trying to point out that naming and shaming isnt always the best way to go :)
