Just wondered if anyone had used Alex at Dorchester Saddlery. Everyone I talk to says she is brilliant but I'm not sure she's got my saddle quite right and I'm quite frustrated.

I don't know the saddler but if you're not happy go back to her with your complaints. She may well be able to sort the probs quite easily. If this doesn't resolve the issue contact the Society of master saddlers (if she's registered) or trading standards cos after all if you paid for goods or a sevice which is not fit for the purpose you are entitiled to your money back!

How long has Alex been at Dorchester Saddlery??? I bought my saddle from them in 1994 and they gave me a really good service and also a good deal on my old saddle....tho I was buying a new saddle from them!!! I havent had a horse within the last 5 years...due to having twins!!! But Im in contact with horsey people and I havent heard a bad word about them!!

I would go back to them if your not satisfied tho.

When my new horse arrived in May I got her out to fit a saddle. First one she left me with did not fit and the back lady said to get the saddler out again and get another one. Which I did. Back lady said it was fine with a prolite pad so have ridden all summer with that.

Began to notice last week that white patches were growing on either side of the wither and realised the space between saddle and hollow of withers was v.minimal and saddle was tight there. I assumed saddle was too narrow now that he has changed shape.

Went back to saddlers on Tues with saddle and Alex said it was due to him having a hollow in his withers and that needed padding out so the saddle didn't dig in because the saddle was too wide and then it would be fine.

I have ridden 3 times since then. This morning when I took his saddle off lots of white hairs came out and you could clearly see the impression of the wither pad and nothing else on his back although when I slipped my hand underneath into the hollow in his withers whilst I was riding it slid in a lot easier and didn't seem anywhere near as tight. I am so upset about all of this because you trust professionals to do a good job and then you see white patches on your horses back and realise that all this time he must have been hurting.

Do I get another saddler out? I'm getting really stressed about it all because I've got a full time job and I can't take anymore time off work to get it sorted out.

Any ideas?

I've used her and she's been brilliant with me - however if you've got any doubts at all (which you seem to have) I'd get another saddler to check (if anything just for peace of mind)

Sorry I'm no help!
