We called in on our way home from camping in the New Forest, and were quite shocked to hear the sad stories there. I went there as a 7 year old as a Brownie, but that was 12 years ago now.
did anybody else know that the place was an RSPCA case three years ago, and that the previous owners had abandoned 17 hat-rack shires to their own fates, albeit cooped up, 2 to a stable? the result is that the new owners now have a yard full of traumatised horses, whom they seem to have done a tremendous job in nursing back to nearly full health.
i think the principle of the place is wonderful; they've a couple they have saved from slaughter (one who, after being sold for £600 to the meat man as he was infertile, has gone on to sire a beautiful foal!), as well as a brain damaged Ardenne pony who most would not have considered keeping. if i had the money, i would love to be able to contribute to keeping a place like this afloat

Yes it is very sad, one of my best friends was Head groom there for years before they sold it, Sadly it went very much downhill from there and my friend was very sad, that all her work and horses she loved were so neglected. Havent been there for years, but hopefully whoever has it now, will restore it to its former glory.

So shocked to hear this - I went there 10 years ago when I was looking for an Icelandic, they used to have some that they used for trekking and decided to sell them all. So sad that they did such a dreadful thing, leaving horses to their fate - there really is no excuse, surely they could have just got in touch with one of the equine charities and said they couldn't cope. I do hope the new owners succeed.
