We called in on our way home from camping in the New Forest, and were quite shocked to hear the sad stories there. I went there as a 7 year old as a Brownie, but that was 12 years ago now.
did anybody else know that the place was an RSPCA case three years ago, and that the previous owners had abandoned 17 hat-rack shires to their own fates, albeit cooped up, 2 to a stable? the result is that the new owners now have a yard full of traumatised horses, whom they seem to have done a tremendous job in nursing back to nearly full health.
i think the principle of the place is wonderful; they've a couple they have saved from slaughter (one who, after being sold for £600 to the meat man as he was infertile, has gone on to sire a beautiful foal!), as well as a brain damaged Ardenne pony who most would not have considered keeping. if i had the money, i would love to be able to contribute to keeping a place like this afloat
