Ok, so I am pathetic about SJ, so LEC and I convinced ourselves that doing it for 3 days would solve all our fears - so easy to say in the warmth of the office!

I was slightly worried as my horse is a bit of a thug, so I had concerns he may trash temporary stabling, however, he took to it like a seasoned pro and was completely chilled out!

Thursday we did BN first, I rode like a fool, he made no effort and we had two down. Got my act together in the discovery to have one down in the first round and one in the JO (it was single phase). Friday was Discovery first, going much better, clear first round, one pole in the JO (two phase). Then the dreaded 1.10. I remained outwardly calm, but inwardly was hoping LEC might back out then I could too. In she went and jumped a beautiful round to just have two down, which put the pressure on for me (as even though I am a wuss, I am also horribly competitive!). In we went and he flew! Pinged the fences like they were nothing to also have just the two down, and thank god they were unlucky poles not my rubbish riding! So we celebrated with Champagne for managing to overcome our fears!

Saturday, hideous weather, holding ground. I was not riding forwards enough in the discovery to have one down in the first round. Last fence of the first phase too, typical. My fault though, I should have taken a better line. I did smack him after the first fence to try and get him going forwards more, but he just bucked and ignored me. So back to the lorry for some spurs for the 1.05 open. He still was not forwards enough in the first phase, and really helped me out over a couple of them, then suddenly copped on for the second phase to jump a beautiful JO and get our first DC BSJA! Sadly we were far too slow as I had taken wide lines so came about 7th or 8th and it was only rosettes to 6th, which I was rather miffed about!

So pleased though, I feel like I have conqured my fear of SJ finally! And very chuffed with ponio who jumped his socks off and had no more than 2 poles in any class all weekend - not bad for a big eventer with a wussy rider neither of whom have jumped classes that big before in their lives!

You went DC in the 1.05!!!! Fabulous. You must be so pleased with the weekend

Thrilled to bits with it. Cannot believe it took until the last class, in the worst conditions on the last day to get that bloody DC and then I did not even get a rosette! (I know, I am ungrateful, but I was really hoping for one!).

Shame the 1.05s are all open really though, as he'll never beat the diesel horses, but the height suited us both down to the ground - small enough not to terrify me but big enough to make him make an effort!

You could just spot the diesel horses a mile off in the 1.05 - the turns they were doing were unbelievable in crap conditions and in order to do that you are either sat on something old and experienced or unbelievably scopey that normally jumps bigger. So annoying for SC as in restricted classes only 4/5 clears at most in opens it all doubled. Nevermind we both have a good couple of years at Newcomers so no stinking diesel horses!!

It will be a long time before I am brave enough to do the JO at newcomers even if we manage to pull off a clear in the first round, so I will have more than 2 years at that level PMSL!

I think I quite enjoy SJ now...

My horse is now very pampered, he even got turned out in a rug yesterday!

No rug for Yak as he was so hot. He also looked much more like an eventer as I turned him out rather than a show pony. I will report back what the newcomers is like at Midsomerset as going to watch! So much rain last night I think the ground will be decimated as Disco and NC are last 2 classes.

Ha - mine looked like an eventer too! Horrible animal broke one of my partitions on the road back to the yard though, he is horrible, I am going to get some new ones made with rubber skirts so there is nothing for him to kick...

I think he will be fit for Highclere now, hurray!

Onwards to us both this week! Though we have a week at work to contend with first!!

You don't you have Wednesday off! I have a new Technical Director and team leader starting Monday, so no skiving for me! Actually, email will be fine, but deffo no forums!

Yes true I like having a day off mid week though Saturdays can be tedious when I think of people having fun. Even better its a bank holiday next week so only 4 days of work! I feel excited about eventing now. Have not felt at all bothered during July and Aug and now its getting closer and I am feeling positive about SJ it all seems exciting again.

Well done! Not the nicest weather for it so great performances on the last day. I used to love going there, and it was only down the road.

It was very wierd for me as I grew up very close to there and used to hack my pony past the place! Horrible weather on the last day, but the ground was perfect for the first two days so can't complain.
