Double Bridle bits...

Am thinking of starting to look at purchasing a set of double bits for snoopy.
He is currently happily ridden in a KK ultra snaffle with lozenge which is 5 1/2

Now I would either like to get him a set of Springer bits (expensive) or a set of Neue Schule which are slightly cheaper.
Just not sure where to start ie the weymouth... should i get straight, fixed, port what??? and should it be slightly bigger? and should i get the snaffle as a lozenge or just single nutcracker action?

You want to go up slightly for the bradoon, the weymouth has to fit snugly.

The best thing to do is to borrow or try as many different styles of weymouth as possible (you are more than welcome to try Oskar's by the way, I'm sure P will be able to lend you a few too). You can then see what style the horse seems happiest in. As he is currently ridden in a KK snaffle, it is probably best to keep him in a double jointed lozenged bradoon as that is what he is used to.

I have a Sprenger cut back port weymouth and a cheap-o cottage craft knock off lozenged bradoon, which seems to suit nicely.
 
I tend to start with using the normal snaffle as the bradoon and adding the weymouth. Depends on the horse as to which one to use. My instructors big horse has the forwards ported weymouth from NS, as he likes to try and put his toungue over the bit. My pony mare has a fixed cheek with a curved (mullen) mouthpeice as she doesn't like the bits to move much.
 
I've got KK bits that I got off ebay for an amazing price, the weymouth is port and the bradoon is lozenged and I use it as my everyday snaffle as well.
My girl goes ok in this but I'm going to look at the bit bank website and find some different types of weymouth to try.

I saw a set on Ebay this week. Just not 100% what i wanted.
 
I use a Sprenger KK Ultra Bradoon with a lozenge in a 5 3/4 and A Neue Schule Weymouth in a 5 1/2- (the gently curved away one) and they are both really happy in those bits. I think it depends on the horses conformation, the size of the mouth and their tongue and their way of going before deciding on what one to go for- as someone said- try a few before you decide. I have always found Heather at Neue Schule to be really helpful too.
