does the weymouth have to be smaller than the bradoon? and if a horse normally takes a 5.25in bit what sizes of the different bits would they need?

sorry if its a silly question

Usually I think the general rule is the curb bit is your usual size, and the bradoon is a bit (quarter inch or so) bigger. But I think both of mine are the same size (5.5") - my bradoon is a french link and it seems fine.

Hi Mole,

I have exactly the same problem as you - horse mouth size is 5.25. I can' decide whether to get both bits in 5.5 or the weymouth in 5in & bradoon in 5.5.

Think safest option would be both in 5.5. Would be interested to see other people's comments. Thanks

Personalyl i would ensure you had the perfect fit when it comes to double bridles. I did exactly what you are talking about and bought my bits both in the same size he was wearing normally. When he went to the producers the first thing she did was give me a telling off for having all that oversized metal banging around in his mouth. She replaced them immediately and he stopped clattering then around in his mouth and responding much quicker he obviosuly felt more comfortable - they were indeed to big for him.

The double bits were too big in his mouth and didnt sit properly i bought both the bits in 5.5" which is what his snaffle always has been, that never changed he continued to use his 5.5" french link snaffle but his double bits were completely changed. I'll try and find out what she put in in the end. I didnt even ask to be honest as he was much happier in them and didn't play with them in his mouth anymore
