My instructor wants me to get a double bridle for schooling the boy in but I have never used or purchased one before.

I found this one on the internet

Does anyone think it is any good? Just looks a bit cheap compared to the others i've been looking at!

Also - what bits do I need to get to go on it?

Thanks in advance for your help x

That one would be fine to start you off.
Do you really need a double? What bit do you normally ride him in? If it's a single jointed then get a single jointed bradoon and sliding cheek weymouth

I can't borrow one first as no one I know has a horse with quite such a large head! That's why when I saw that one I thought if he didn't like it, it wouldn't break the bank! At the moment he's ridden in a caveson bridle with a french link bradoon!! I know it's a huge jump but instructor says he's too powerful for him to school him on therefore he wants him in a double!

Thanks for all your help

You could keep him in the double jointed bradoon and add a low ported weymouth, just watch it isnt too much in his mouth as the double jointeds can be a bit weighty

If you've got a snaffle bridle you don't need to buy a whole new bridle to fit double bits. You will need a bradoon and weymouth bits (either both fixed cheeks or both sliding cheeks) with the bradoon (snaffle) 1/4 inch bigger than the weymouth. You fit the weymouth to the cheekpieces (like you would a pelham). You will need a sliphead to attach the bradoon (basically another headpiece/cheekpiece without a throatlash), and ofcourse you'll need another pair of reins.

I agree that you should borrow one before you invest, it can get expensive trying new bits!

I have a heritage flash for schooling in and it's fine

Let me know how you get on with the double, if I intend to get to some proper hunter classes next year, I'm gonna have to introduce a double to George
