Not only have I just discovered I have been walking around with a broken rib for three weeks, since my dramatic exit from the saddle (but thankfully not a fractured spine or slipped disc as previously suspected) but I have just taken delivery of my
'Brand new luxury rubber stable mats'
which have been delivered to me....get this.... wrapped in ONE bin liner around the middle. 7ft of un rolled mat with a bin liner round the middle!

AND these things do not look suitable for a stable, they look like foam underneath with a shiny coating onthe top?! AND they are damaged from being shipped with no protection - I paid nearly £14 for shipping!

Who did you buy them from? If they aren't fit for the purpose they are sold for I would contact trading standards. Did you pay with a credit card?
 
I bought them on ebay and they were sold as 'luxury stable mats' and the description read:

* They provide incredible comfort for your horse and save on bedding and labour time and costs.

* Each mat is approx. 3ft.5" x 6ft.8" (1.04m x 2.05m) 1.5 inches thick.

* They are easy to lift by one person so can be lifted out regularly to clean underneath and can easily be hosed off and put back down again.

* Can also be used as wall mats, on stable doors, horseboxes etc.

* These are soft so help prevent injuries from hard stable floors.


I won't link to the actual seller but they are grey in colour, she has now changed the photo of the item to a picture and there is a note about 'no returns accepted'

are they suitable for a stable?
 
Are they a private individual or an ebay shop?

I bought a saddle on ebay that wasn't as described and managed to claim against the seller because they were a shop. Your best bet is to ring trading standards and they can tell you what to do next.

No returns doesn't affect your legal rights, I think under distance selling regulations you have 14 days to decide you aren't happy and return something but I may be way off on this.

I would go down the route that they were inadequately packaged and have been damaged in transit. Much easier to prove than saying that they are not fit for purpose because that's quite subjective.

Make sure you open a dispute in ebay and paypal because they have separate systems so you're covering all your bases.

first link doesnt work. the second one, i got some mats basically the same as these on ebay but different seller. i personally love them. they are very soft and comfy and are light so i find it really easy to lift and clean under them. that being said, i dont know what the ones you have are exactly like as its a different seller and sounds a bit dodgy the way they turned up! Can you find a pic of what the first link should be?
 
I think these are meant to be different from the 'traditional' stable mats. The 'traditional' ones are quite hard, the EVA ones are described as a 'mattress' for horses. It's entirely up to you if you like them or not, but if you don't like them you can return for a refund within 14 days. Inform the seller you will be returning and send them back with proof of postage and insurance.

Ouchie for the rib!! That must be really really painful!
 
I think I've bought these as well, but from a different seller... I was a bit dubious when they turned up, they do look more like gym mats but I've put them down anyway, and tbh, they're not too bad. Very thick so I can just put a sprinkling of bedding down (which was the plan) and easy to move.

My OH help me cut one up and it was really easy, to keep them all wedge in. Looks like they're foam all the way through so waterproof, which is good.

When they turned up though, they were farrrrr bigger than the advert had said. Was quite a mission getting them to the yard! I'm surprised the courier picked them up seeing as the dimensions I gave were completely wrong :S I checked the feedback of other buyers, and they all said they were great for their horses, so hoping mine with be fine when my boy starts coming in at night. He's already given them a good booting, chewing, scrapping etc. when they first arrived and so far, no marks, no nothing.

But I'd like to know what happens if you do try and send them back. I just felt like an idiot so didn't even try and really hoping now that they're not a waste of money

I was worried that the foam might just soak up any pee? bit gross - sorry! Also yes they are massive ! I was expecting nearly 7ft by 3.5 and they certainly are that big. But how do I get them in the car?! It is a saloon car at that so no folding seats!! ARGH lol
 
Well it hasn't yet, and he's tested them a few times lol. I have the shiny bit on top and slightly rougher stuff on the bottom, to give them a bit more grip. They seem to be waterproof so far.

I have a little clio oasis lol! But luckily the seats do fold down. I had to fold them in half and make 2 trips to move all 6 mats. I didn't really want to fold them because I thought it might damage them but they were fine. Really was not expected them to be that big though. I've only used 4 and a bit and that's covered more than half my stable. From the measurements I was given, 6 should have only just done half of it!
 
I'd be somewhat cheesed about the mats.

On a more positive note, don't worry about your ribs... even if you had known they were broken there's nothing you can do about them anyway. (Unless you can figure out a way of not breathing, laughing, sneezing, stretching, bending or farting for about 6 weeks).

haha i had the same i was told they were 6ft by 3ft so i brought 6 and iv used 4 1/2 as they are well over 7 x 4!! oh well they were cheap anyway and got a spare in the garage if any probs!! Slight hoof dents but no holes or anything. word of advice though allow space round the edges as they will spread slightly once your horses weights been on it a while, iv just had to trim the edges of mine, but very happy with them tbh!
