Double-skunking ... Ugh.

Both boy dogs were skunked today on their early morning walk with my OH . Looking on the bright side, Bella Beagle managed to escape without an issue. She's a sensible girly.

Luckily we had some "skunk-off" to wipe on them which did some of the trick. Neither of us could hang around to do much more about it so we left the dogs in the house with the windows open (it was a lovely day here today after 8 inches of rain over the last three days) and surprisingly it wasn't too terrible when I got in tonight. Then tonight all three went into the tub one by one (Bella because she was grimey after a long winter). They smell much much better now ... all lavendery ... the boys are not happy with smelling so girly. Serves them right.

I've also had to launder all the dog beds and blankets and sofa throws, etc. I'm on my fourth load right now.

It has not been a great day in the Galupy household ...

Ugh, you have my sympathy. You left them in the house?!!!!!!!!!

Mine frequently get skunked, not hard as there is a skunk highway running past the house, in fact somedays I think they run circles around it!

I have never tried any of the specific skunk-away products, mine just get taken for a walk, 'encouraged' to swim in the creek, washed down with bicarb mix, and then go for a swim again. I can't do that through the winter though of course. Fortunately mine are not house dogs, but their 'bedroom' is the breezeway between the garage and the house so getting to the garage/house is running the gauntlet on really skunky days!

Unfortunately we had no choice but to leave them in the house - we live in a busy area and our yard is tiny and all concrete so we just couldn't leave them out. No garage either. We are looking for a house right now with land in a more country-like setting so hopefully in the future when they get skunked (likely in the garden ) we will have the option to keep them out of the house.

I was surprised the "skunk-off" worked as well as it did - quite worth the price. I've tried the other home remedies as well and they didn't work so well and were messy.
