Since the introduction of the legislation requiring horses to be microchipped before being issued a passport, some PIO allow owners to fill in the 'silhouette' section themselves. I've done a few now but I'm struggling a little with the one I'm doing at the moment. My mare has a double whorl on her forehead and another double whorl on one stifle. Does anyone know the correct way to describe these? Is the term 'double whorl' acceptable? I was going to describe the forehead ones separately ie. 'one whorl to left of midline above eye level, one whorl to right of midline above eye level', but the Weatherbys/RCVS guidelines seem to say they should be described in relation to each other. I'm not sure how to do that, do you give an actual distance in cms?

If anyone is experienced at this, or just has a horse with double whorls and could check the passport, I'd be very grateful. Have rung my vet but she's off until next week and I need to get the form sent off!

Many thanks!

My mare has double whorls but unfortunately has just gone out on loan, with her passport!

I believe her passport said something along the lines of 'whorls each side midline upper eye level' and were marked on the silhouette xx - as they were immediately next to each other.

This is as I remember it - I'm sure someone else who has their passport to hand will be of more help!

I didn't have to get the silhouette done at all, simply because he IS micro-chipped. As long as that number is in the passport, you don't need to do it..

Just as well really in my boy's case :D

My boy has double whorls on his forehead and I *think* his passport has a cross where each of them is and says whorl in the description, I don't remember there being measurments. His passport is roughly 5/6 years old, though, so not sure if the rules would have changed. I can check it for you but it won't be until this evening as I'm at work at the moment :)

Thanks guys!

I'm probably being a bit too much of a perfectionist about it anyway, but hey, I like to get these things right! Much appreciated.

Hi,

My chaps passport states two small whorls at eye level-centre forehead and an x marks it on the head diagram.

Mason has a double whorl on his chest, and all the passport says is "whorls on chest" with XX on the diagram. (mind you it is a Gypsy Cob Society passport, which looks like a 5 year old child made it!)
