Dougal went to Firle yesterday for his second 'grown up' event (and 2nd ODE
blush.gif
grin.gif
) he had day before dressage so we set off about 1.30pm for my 5.20pm dressage.

Arrived in plenty of time so walked the XC course 1st, was a bit
crazy.gif
as although he whizzed round MK clear this was def bigger, more to look at and a bit more technical, including the water an almost step in, step out then a huge roll top brush
crazy.gif
and he hasnt been that confident with water.

Headed down to the dressage and he felt quite good, i really got after him and 'rode' him a bit more in the test and he came up with the goods a few times, but 2nd canter was still a little iffy. I thought it was beter then last week (43) but you never can tell.

Set off for Golden Cross to stable and got there in about 20mins, in a nice stable and Dougal looked pretty settled, set off blurry eyed about 7.30am for the fun bits!!

Arrived in enough time to watch some SJ and see that id got 37.5 in the dress
laugh.gif
much better. SO the dressage was an improvement on last week. Then it was out turn to SJ, he felt a little sluggish due to the weather but jumped well in the warm up bar trashing one
crazy.gif
. Went in and jump like alittle star, no wobbling this time, clear the whole way then just tapped out 8 & 9
tongue.gif
wasnt too disapointed as most were having these, it was an oxer on a dodgy turn then planks.

Now the fun bit!! And TBH I was actually quite nervous, now he has raised a bar on his last performance i felt like I 'must' do well now and the water was worrying me......well I shouldnt have worried!! He wobbled at one and 2, wasnt really looking as so much going on, then had a massive freak at the sand covered road! must have goblings under it!! But flew the combinations, the difficult water and galloped home for just 1.2 time penalties
laugh.gif
laugh.gif
couldnt be prouder of him!!

Think we came 12th so just out the placings and he improved on every phase from last week, starting to wonder when will he stop improving!! He has just taken to it like a duck to water!! And I never in my wildest dreams thought he would be almost placed in his 2nd event!

He will have 2 days off now as he has worked really hard then 2 weeks till the Intro at Little Downham. Cookied if you got this far - sorry for the major I love my pony ramble!

No1 and 2 were pretty spooky i thought, plus the tyres at the far end with that red banner behind - T would have had a good old look at that!! I was walking the PN with a friend and we were at that bit just after the water so could see quite a bit.

Well done, so pleased to see he's going well. He's a super chap
smile.gif

Just one question though....I'm on the yard you bought him from (YO is a friend) and I thought he'd been in "grown up" work since November last year and was out and about competing quite regularly until she found she couldn't keep competing all three of her horses? Happy to be corrected as I could have the wrong end of the stick. I must check with her when I see her tomorrow as I thought she'd done a bit of Intro with him, but it may have just been unaffil and dressage.

Anyway, glad he's getting on well as he's a lovely boy.

Yes he is a lovely boy and I can quite catogorically (sp!) he definitely did not do an intro!!

When I bought him he wouldnt even jump a log or go into water he didnt have a clue. His SJing was appauling! He had done no gridwork or anything my instructor said he looks like he has only been jumping 5 minutes. Also he schooling was attrocious! He had no correct muscle no backend and his trot had been so restricted he felt lame behind!!! Sorry to be so blunt if the girl is your friend but hhe was almost a blank canvas when I bought him! And he has exceeded our expectations completely

Also dont really want to get into a debate!
tongue.gif
But "grown up" work and "correct" work are 2 completely different things! I have brought that horse on and shown him everything and he is turning out to be a cracker so far

Also sorry to go on!
blush.gif
grin.gif
But if thats what he looked like and went like after being worked from Nov I wouldnt admit to that! I was also told when I bought him he had done one unaff dress & SJ which is quite believable. I was also told the same as you he was sold as didnt have time, but have since found out the seller is a bit of a small time 'dealer'. Maybe dont believe all you are told.

Just makes me mad when I know what he was like and is now and it feels like people try and steal the credit when a horse goes well! Always happens!

Anyway Dougal coming on a treat and im very happy with him and the progress he has made in just 2 mths, so glad I bought him

Calm down H_J and don't be so defensive. Does it really matter what has been done before; you're the one that's been putting in the hard work and consequently is out having fun on him now.
smile.gif

(Sorry, nearly forgot to say "well done", which is what I came on here to do but got side-tracked by your rant.)

LMAO, a small time dealer?! Where did you hear that from??? I keep my horses on the yard she runs so I would know if she was a dealer. She's got one mare she's had for a good couple of years who is eventing, a BD schoolmaster that she's had for a year and nothing else. The only horse I've seen her sell on is Dougal.

Suggest maybe you don't believe all you are told?
