Calm down H_J and don't be so defensive. Does it really matter what has been done before; you're the one that's been putting in the hard work and consequently is out having fun on him now.

(Sorry, nearly forgot to say "well done", which is what I came on here to do but got side-tracked by your rant.)

I was also told the same as you he was sold as didnt have time, but have since found out the seller is a bit of a small time 'dealer'. Maybe dont believe all you are told.

LMAO, a small time dealer?! Where did you hear that from??? I keep my horses on the yard she runs so I would know if she was a dealer. She's got one mare she's had for a good couple of years who is eventing, a BD schoolmaster that she's had for a year and nothing else. The only horse I've seen her sell on is Dougal.

Suggest maybe you don't believe all you are told?

I think it's really a case of everything being for sale at a price, which I guess would be true of 99% of people on the forum.

Anyway, I am glad you're enjoying him and he's got a good home. And you can't post a report without pics, unless I've missed them

Gosh things are a bit hot on this thread aren't they.

Dougal is a lovely horse and I can back up chestnut cob and state that he did compete successfullty at unaffiliated dressage before he was sold on and he did go to some unaffiliated showjumping events too. When the yard owner bought him he had done nothing and she brought him on to the point where he was ready to go on to someone who could take him that one step further as she did not have enough time or money to finish his education due to running the livery and having her other 2 to compete. He was priced to sell and that I assume this why you bought him becasue he was an unfinished project, showed potential and was cheap. I am not sure why you have been so defensive - he has gone on to do what you bought him for and good luck with bringing him on further. Showjumping was not his strong point and from what you have said about him at his first outings, I am guessing he still needs some work in that area but I do not agree with what you have said about the previous owner. She brought him on sympathetically with a top instructor and he learnt a lot in his time with her which i am pretty sure formed the base from which you have continued to build on. Also she is in no way whatsoever a small time dealer. She simply brought a couple of youngsters to bring on and sell to earn a bit of cash before she brought her eventer and dressage horse. How many people do you know that would pass up this opportunity if they have the ability to bring on ex-racers and turn them into really nice all rounders?

Enough said, I'm glad you are doing well with Dougal but I think your comments about his previous owner were uncalled for and totally irrelevant and i'm sorry but I feel you have brought the debate on yourself!
