My horse has won £345 BSJA meaning he's out of BN and Disco, and if he wins a couple of newcomers Im out of that too. Won too much to do 1m amateur opens and Im not quite at 1.10m yet.....
He hasnt been registered BSJA since 2006, nearly 2 years.
Ive been competing him at RC and had no problems other than I cant be on the RC SJ team due to his winnings. Im quite happy to plod along with RC but wouldnt mind doing some BSJA next year.... if I do can I downgrade him?
Ive been told I can by some people and I cant by others. My friend has downgraded her dressage horse by going to a BD affiliated trainer. Can I do the same with a BSJA horse? Not bothered about BN but would like to do disco and 1m opens.
dont want to be dishonest or do something thats wrong without me even knowing it, so can someone tell me (a) whether I can downgrade him and (b) if I cant, is there any BSJA classes that I can do, happily (would need to be smaller than NC)
Also he's only 15.3hh and is scopey but I dont want to push him or me by forcing ourselves to do NC and theres no way Im good enough to do that or fox anyway. His limit is probably NC anyway!
HELP!!

Oooo well that would be good.... Ive recently been told that as he has more than £175 winnings I cant take him in the 1m open. Worth looking that up I think. Thanks x

You can't downgrade a BSJA horse.

Amateur classes are as above-money doesn't count it only matters if the rider is in the top 450 in the country etc which i'm not being rude but don't think you are?

Hahah no you're not being rude, wouldnt made the top 45000 let alone top 450!!!
I feel much better now, so I will check it out and maybe affiliate him in September
Thank you

I think someone is getting confused with Discovery (also 1m). The prize money limit on that is £175. But an 1m open means that, open! So there should be plenty of classes you can do!

I saw a post on here a while ago where they were talking about the same thing.... and the owner said she couldnt do 1m opens due to the horse's winnings being more than £175. I knew about the disco limit being £175 but maybe she was getting confused. Anyway, sounds like I can affiliate so Im pleased now! Thankies

You can jump a grade B in Amateur.

You can jump anything in an amateur class. Be that an 80cm, 90cm or 1m class.

As long as you aren't in the top 450 it does not matter one little bit what your horse has done, Grade A, B, C or never jumped in its life before.

BTW Newcomers is £300 - so if his notional winnings are £345 yo are already out of it

Not according to the BSJA website.

Last time i checked Newcomers was still £300 Notional and Fox £600 Notional.....

As above though, you can jump ANY class that is 'Open' and they start as tiny as 70cms these days. You are also eligible for ALL the Amateur Qualifiers (90cms, 1m, 1.10m and 1.20m)....join up and get jumping

A horse with BSJA winnings cannot be down-graded but you can do all the amateur classes and any of the 'opens' no matter how small.
So go for it and enjoy !!!

I think the confusion could be coming with the 90 & 1m Scope Q that are running ATM. As they DO have the same restritions as BN & Discovery (hence why they are dual qulification classes)

But echo the others you will be able to jump any of the "OPEN" classes which start right down at 70 cms
