OH GOD, off to a XC course for the first time in well over 15 years tomorrow and am now getting pretty worried!! has anyone been to this one and if so please tell me there are some really tiny jumps for me?
Its not a competion or anything so i can pick and choose what i do but YO is taking me and what she thinks is small is probably not the same as me!

Have a look on their website. Google Downlands equestrian it should bring it up. Looks like they have loads of jumps of all sizes. I would love to go there one day.

My friend is going there on Saturday for the second time in a couple of months, she thinks it is fantastic and she has a 5 year old so I'm sure there will be plenty of nice fences for you to start off with. Good luck I am sure you will have a brilliant time x

Hiya,

It's brilliant! (If a little expensive) - there are loads of little jumps to get started on and plenty of variety too

The field is fairly large but most are reasonably close to the water.
I've been a couple of times recently with my youngster (well ish 7 yr old shire x) and he was well up for more than I could cope with height wise

If this works you'll see some of them in the background - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=49276&id=507507433

Oooh just been on their website (thank you Stilton) and they do have lots of small as well as quite scary looking ones!, and sand surface before and after so no slipping, I am actually quite excited but cant help being a little scared at the same time.
My horse (Jack) has "been there done that" so he will be happy but I am only just getting back into jumping, used to loads as a kid and didnt have any fear, just wish i could get that back.
Thanks for getting back to me I need all the confidence i can muster!
x

It is a really good for novices as they have loads of small fences which you can link together in nice lines. Also have bigger fences for the braver people.

Yup don't panic, Downlands is fantastic! It has loads of teeny jumps and a nice water that you can splash around in if you (as I have done before) chicken out of jumping! Although TBH there is such a range there that it's hard to lose your confidence. Just hope that the whole course is open after all this rain yesterday/ today!

Lots of tinies as well as some nice slightly bigger ones to progress on to. They have a really good bank/steps/coffin complex too which encourages the nervous!!

love the idea of just going for paddle though the rain is pretty awful here today so it may end up being a swim, going in the afternoon so its got a while to dry up - OH has said he may come with the camera!

you are all very good at making it not seem so scary - thank you xx

I'm a confirmed non jumper myself, but go to Downlands regularly as my friend keeps her horses there, and even I am quite tempted by some of the little fences and could probably be persuaded to give them a go some time! Can't say I can see the day when I might tackle the bigger ones though!

It is fab there. Lots of little fences, the water is really good and they have coffins that start with a little dip for the ditch.
I'm dying to get down there with my mare, but have to wait till the end of showing season now or I'll blow her brains.
