Downsizing from a 4x4 - will i cope?

Anyone been in the same boat as me? I have a mitsubish pajero SWB that i have basically had since i have passed my test 10 years ago. Was very handy with getting shavings/feed in the boot and getting down the mile long rutty dirt track everyday (although my friends gets down in her MX5 quite easily).

Have now been getting the feed/shavings in the lorry once a month and what with paying £70 a week in diesel (only to yard and back) i am looking in to getting rid of it and down sizing to a smaller car.

Anyone been in the same boat as me? What did you get and have you struggled with a smaller car? Should i go for a smaller engine 4x4 or just get a little run around?

Yep, I had 2.8 TB SWB Paj, I loved it (still miss it to this day *sobs*) but it supped way too much juice, specially runing it to work and back (over 30 miles a day!) so I parted with it a good few years back now, thank god, seen as fuel has increased even more so since then.

Now I run about a little Punto :D, it's my little tack room on wheels or should I say my little box room on wheels :D

To be fair though, although it's only a small car, I don't have children so plenty of room in the boot and on the back seats for all my horse clobber, so I cope rather well room wise, I just use and abuse it!:o
 
I did this last hyear as i bought a house and needed to save money where I could. I didn't exactly 'downsize' as such though as only had a 3dr Suzuki Vitara but what with the finance, tax and fuel cost to run it I decided I had to trade down. However, I still wanted a 4x4 as access to our field gets rather tricky in the snow and ice and also having the 4x4 is handy in the summer when doing any work in the field when you need to ferry stuff back and forth.

I did a bit of research on what I could get for my money and decided on a Fiat Sedici as it has optional 4WD but the rest of the time is 2WD. It is bigger inside than my Vitara as has 5 drs so feels like a 'proper car'! Lol. It is basically the same as a suzuki SX4 but they do not always come in 4WD whereas Fiat only bought the 4WD version from Suzuki so it was easier to find.

So far I am pretty pleased with it but i was always impressed with the Suzuki's 4WD system anyway. Ok, i don't now have the diff lock and high and low ratio 4WD but for now my little Fiat will do. It is a fair bit cheaper tax wise and fuel wise (although these days nothing's cheap on fuel with the proce it is!!!)

No you will think its great,, get a fiesta, clio, polo,206 diesel and enjoy 60+ mpg and cheap tax,
