Wondering if anyone could give me any tips on how to stop my horse dragging me into field when I turn her out. As soon as the field gate opens she is off. She's only 15.2 but very strong....before you've even had a chance to hold onto her your arm is pulled out the socket and she's in full pelt gallop down the bottom of field. She is turned out all day from like 6 in morning till 7 at night so it's not as if she has limited access to field and is stuck in stable all the time. Grrrr why do horses like to annoy us hahah

I would just turn in the other direction as it would give me enough time to establish more control. I would also suggest that you wrap the leadrope around her nose so when she pulls she is fighting herself more than you. Have you tried having an apple in your pocket so that she wants to stay by the gate longer than normal?

Have you tried talking to her? Maybe practice standing by the gate for a few extra seconds each day.

When my boy tanks I look for the signs and tell him no firmly keeping his head close to me to stop him revving up then immediately calm him down by stroking him and this seems to work.

How old is she?

Quite alot of horses, mainly the mares have been acting that way recently at my yard - accept they are out 24/7 so it makes even less sense!

Hope it works for you!
