I feel sorry for whoever will buy them because later on in life those horses will develop pretty serious back problems from this that will be expensive to treat. It's a shame that soo many horses get ruined like this and people think it's okay to do so.

God I would be soooo embarrassed :o :o to be photographed on such poor looking young horses, some bid people ride lightly but those photos show fat lumps sitting like a sack of spuds on the poor horses, all far too far back on the loins - God help the poor ponies

That horses face doesn't even look real! Also do these people not think its a good idea to brush their horses before advertising them. I can see past a little mud (really you should see mine right now) but if I was selling him I would at least make a little effort to find him a nice home. I get that some of them are scruffy youngsters but it absolutely amazes me how people treat them. One advert was selling a 2 year old that had been backed when she bought it but she's been hacking it out since, how old was it when it was backed?!?!

I agree, I know a couple of bigger riders (They actually have horses big enough to carry them anyway) but they are capable of riding light and are probably more balanced than I am but the little coloured mare in particular just looks so uncomfortable. Most of these horses probably couldn't buck or bolt because of the enormous weight on them not because they're well behaved. It makes me sad and I'm now going to count my pennies to buy that mare, she's cute!

He's handsome and not like the others as he wasn't backed at 2 :)

There are actually some really nice horses on there but they are definitely the exceptions, majority of them look like they either need a good meal, a worming or an escape route!

Go to any show and you will see this sort of "armchair" position in the small mountain and moorland classes!! Do these people realise how ridiculous they look?!!

Tbh I don't think they are ridden often. Quick backing and someone (anyone!) just jumps on with probably the only saddle they can find to take a photo. They don't take time these people. Quick turnaround, if they don't sell, they become dog meat. Simple as that.

I have noticed that before, it looks uncomfortable and not particularly safe. I cant imagine they are particularly stable sat like that. Having said that almost every horse on dragon driving is 10000% bombproof all for £200 so who cares how stable your seat it?!;)

That does seem to be the case! I cant imagine that many do sell, there are so many that all look extremely similar, similar write up, similar price, all as poor as each other.... how to choose! What is funny is that bar a hand full all horses are either too fat or too thin, clearly there is no pleasing me!:)

It's weird isn't it, if they just let their stirrups down about a foot they wouldn't be sitting so badly. the backing so early makes me mad, the roman nosed one is soo scrawny looking bless it.

I'm sure lots of these poor wretches are sold off DD, to well meaning people wanting to rescue them and further funding more ill bred worm ridden little ponies :-(

Obviously there are some nice ones like the one posted. It makes sense for there to be a website for driving horses and ponies but its shocking what it comes up with!

They ride like this because they are dirty trailer trash scum who see horses as a quick buck
I would imagine, actually, that they ride like that because they are not very well trained. Nothing to do with their living arrangements, and I don't think they make very much out of it either. Nasty comment.

This^^^
Although neither of the positions OP is talking about are good there are far worse ones to be seen on DD, where large riders are leaning back much further than either of those. In fact I've seen worse positions in some sigs on this forum and there are a good few on Horsemart etc as well.

Those two were just a selection off the first page, it definitely got worse the further I got! I used to ride with short stirrups on my horse that bucked a lot, it wasn't a conscious decision, my instructor pointed out that the shorter my stirrups the more I rode like I was on an ejector seat if things got dangerous. I do wonder if they ride like that incase they need to make a quick get a way, that or like someone else said extremely poor training. It does amaze me when everyone goes on about how much safety costs, if half of those horses are as safe as they say why they aren't snapped up?!

To be honest and this is in no way a criticism of the earlier poster but I don't think I would ever buy anything from there no matter how good the ad and pics. Due to the amount of poor horses on there I would be extremely wary of the people advertising there which is a shame like you say it makes perfect sense for there to be a place to advertise driving horses.

Because in the main, the people who buy from that site know what they are doing, exactly what they are looking at and how much it is worth. I doubt that the average novice buys from there

There are plenty of horses advertised on other sites which are not as advertised or which shouldn't be touched with a barge-pole.

When you are buying horses you need to keep your wits about you at all times.

I am actually embarrassed to sit on a horse that's is too small for me. I'm only 5ft 1 myself :o but as a child I was taller than everyone else so when I (rarely) got the small ponies I always felt bad or out of proportion.

It suprises me they sell anything when they put photos on like that, I know you are not buying the owner or their riding position but it does the horse no wonder when your knees are under your multiple chins, sitting under their ears. Poor things, their backs will be done in with them sack of potatoes sitting on them :o
