I have 2 cracking cobs which I bought through Dragon Driving, both were from the same seller, purchased at different times. I wouldn't part with them for any money.

Surely every site has good and bad sellers?

I don't know about DD, but a lady on our yard who is the old fashined sort (welly bobs etc) bought a yearling from a local dealer. I think he bulk buys in ireland. The fillys sell well, the colts, well... She bought her colt for bobbins as he was unhandled and un gelded. When he turned up I thought omg its a mini gonk, unlikly to make over 13hh ... 1 year on he's gelded, well mannered, at least 14.2 and a very nice sort. .

What are welly bobs please?

I know the couple who run DD and they are certainly not "of that type" - I have also sold 3 horses through DD and all have sold within 7 days of putting up the advert (one within 24 hours) and I am not "of that type" either.

You need to be careful wherever you buy your horses from and you should always take every precaution (vetting etc) before you part with your cash!

Horses are dirt cheap at the moment (dont forget we are in the middle of winter) and also, Ireland is suffering a huge financial crisis so loads of animals coming over super cheap.

One of my ex friends had a gypsy cob off dd, loan to buy in 6 months ( don't know how she wangled that)
The cob was a lovely hairy chappy with the thickest longest mane and tail and had manners to die for.
Said friend didn't buy him and he was taken back, he's now owned by a young teenager and her siblings.
There are some lovely good quality ponies on there , you just have to sift through the not so good

I find that website really depressing! Some nice stuff on there but some I want to buy purely out of pity, especially the 2yo's who are being ridden and driven (raced) down roads. And WHY can so few of them take a half decent photo?!?!

Out of interest, someone in one of those ads says "Started a bit of liberty work." - WTF is liberty work??

This is harness racing parlance and means that the horse in question does not need protective boots (often of the type called "scalping" boots to prevent a particular type of overeach) or an overcheck to drive properly at speed. The tether is a way of tying horses out for grazing. All these are good things, BTW.

You can also find some very over-priced, poorly put-together animals, advertised by utter numpties/complete shysters.

Just like most of the other sites, really.

I have one on there now, can't say much about him as it may be classed as advertising, but if anyones after a nice 15.2hh irish gelding to bring on.....

If you take cash and are ready to buy there and then they tend to be more reasonable. Even better if you have a trailer, although a lot of dealers/breeders/people of a certain type will be happy to deliver for you.

FionaM12 what a sad little specimen he is - it breaks your heart to see poor little ponies like that. It's just heartbreaking. I hate that site with a passion and the people who breed horses and ponies that will never sell because of their appalling conformation. I cry for some of those poor animals, I really do.

I'm sure you're right and there are lots of good people and well-cared-for horses on there, along with the odd few neglected ones.

Agree with everything you say.
It is also the only place that ever has Gelderlanders for sale because it is a driving site, so were I ever to sell Captain, not this side of hell freezing over, I would advertise on there and I would also look on there first if I wanted another Gelderlander, they have a lovely quality, very well bred mare on there at present and she is professionally trained, hardly a "poor" thing! So why judge a whole site by a few, bet you could find just as bad on HorseMart or any other site. Good and bad everywhere!
