Sorry for me blocking up the forum with all my questions!

For anyone that read about a previous 'friend' causing hassle for myself, the drama still continues. For those who didn't, basically, a so-called 'friend' reported me for animal cruelty because my mare lost weight. She was on no hard feed due to vets advice as it causes her to rapidly gain weight, and cause excessive pressure on her legs. She trespassed and took my mare's rugs off, took pictures, and continuously blackmailed and backed me into a corner threatening to report me if I didn't hand over or sell my mare to her.

I'm still in contact with her, but only to keep an eye on her movements, as she is VERY sly and manipulative. Turns out she attempted to use a friend of mine just to get close to my mare, and get back at me, and is still attempting to turn the whole yard against me with nothing but lies, to achieve whatever she has ticking away in her head.

I have my mare on sugabeet, chaff, a mix and 365 powder to supplement any vitamins and minerals she is in dire need of, as well as turnout and ad lib hay. She's steadily putting weight back on. However, this person is now trying to force me into feeding her food she has, and is inviting herself up to my yard to involve and help herself with my mare!

A friend of mine is helping me to get my mare up to scratch, just as I am helping re-back her pony this person sold her. She has been very forceful towards my friend, ordering her not to feed my mare, give her any hay or water, and allow her to "deteriorate", so eventually she will have her! I really am tired, I've mentioned legal action and it still isn't stopping her. I really have tried everything.. I've sought legal action and I have a case against her, and I fear that the only way is to take it all the way, except it'll give me hell on my hands with her friends and relatives.

What would you guys do? I've told her straight, told her she will not be having her and is staying with me, although she finds that she has the right to try offering other people to loan/buy MY horse! She really is a nutcase to put it politely, and I really have been having hell on my hands with it all.

And what feed is best to gain weight on a youngster.

Thank you!

Are you all at same yard? If not why does she have ANY access to your horse. If are at same yard and yard owner cannot / will not stop her, I would move yards, life is too short.

For weight gain I feed calm and condition, alfa beet, non molassed alfa, equilibra and equijewel.
In your situation I would talk to a welfare organisation, explaining the situation with someone who is effectively harassing you, and ask what they recommend. Have her teeth been done recently and has she been wormed/worm counted?

What a nutcase! I'd move yard as soon as possible, not tell anyone where you've moved to and advise the new YO that if she ever turns up she is trespassing and should be shown off the premises Immediately.

I would move her to a different yard too if possible
As to feed the best you can do is give her Alfa oil, calm and condition, micronised linseed and speedibeet. Or any high oil low sugar carb diet sugar and starch should never be higher than 5%. Alfa will give her protein to grow on and her body will convert fats and oils to the carbs she needs for energy
Any other method of feeding gives rise to an increase in risk of insulin resistance EMS, EM cushings etc

Have you involved the yard owner or manager they really need to be aware of the situation.
Take notes of all conversations keep texts , note when she contacts your friend .
Honestly I would be approaching the police.
As for feed I always add micronised linseed to my horses diets and increase it to around 400 grammes a day if needed but without knowing about why she lost wieght in the first place it's difficult to advise .
If your horse is gaining wieght and the vet is involved and you are following veterinary advice you have nothing to fear from her reporting you or anything like that.

She sounds like a nightmare. Could you get a restraining order maybe?

Copra Coolstance is low sugar low starch and derived from coconuts, it has a good reputation for weight gain without fizziness or excess sugar

I can't believe you are putting up with this crap! Good god....get her out of your life, move your horse and report her for harrasement!

I wouldn't put up with such bull***** so why are you actually still in contact with her??

I've checked everything and she has recently been wormed, but sending off another egg count this week in hope that it comes up with something. She is putting weight on, but no answer as to why she lost so much so quickly.

I don't speak to her, but the more she is given chance to say anything, it helps to build a stronger case against her. I was advised my legal advisers to do so, after I sought legal advice explaining the situation.

She sounds like she's trying to wear you down.. DON'T LET HER!!

Firstly - MOVE ASAP! Don't tell ANYONE where you're going even your friend, then at least you know she can't track you down.

Secondly - get an injunction against her from even approaching yourself or the yard your horse is on. In fact, do that first THEN move..

I'd move. And have some sort of injunction in place to stop he from coming near you or the horse or the property the horse is kept at. What a pain for you!

As for feed, lot of people have recommended micronised linseed, I'm thinking of trying that with my horse. Might be worth giving it a go?

She obviously has a plan in her mind, she's begging me to move back on the same yard with her, so she can "look after" and "ride" my mare.. -.- She won't give in!

Thank you for all the feeding advice, found it very helpful!

When a harassment order is placed on someone... Essentially it extends to anyone else, they are not allowed to make contact with you themselves in any way... This includes via third parties, you usually find that this is enough for other people to keep their noses out, as they don't want to inadvertently get caught up in a police issue. To be honest, I'm surprised you haven't gone to the police, I understand your hesitancy but this to me is leaving your horse very vulnerable to the actions of a really nasty piece of work... Once the order is in place (all it takes is a statement from you and the police do the rest) it's in place for a year or so I recall, following being served by the police with the order (they tell you when it has been done) any further attempt at unwarranted contact and she could find herself in court. From the sounds of her I'd be acting quickly, I would also be making one swift and final statement to her... Her attention is unwelcome and all contact and interference with you and with regards your horse is to cease, one more incident of any kind and you will involve the police... This includes the involvement of third parties. Do this in writing, text/fb/email or a recorded delivery letter anything you can print and prove, you then end absolute contact with her... One peep and you pick the phone up and call the police in and hand it over to them to deal with. You are not helping issues by remaining in contact with her, whatever your reason and your belief that its safeguarding you, it isn't, not with someone like this... The message needs to be absolutely clear. I really feel for you, harassment is not nice, it's draining and it makes the receiver ill... Don't stand for it, protect you and your horse and put a stop to it x

Op, believe me, it does not take much evidence for the police to act... I only needed to provide the proof of one days text messages from one individual and she was served with an order for 12 months... All you have to do is state clearly that contact is unwelcome and seen as harassment and anything further is enough, personally I think you've been given some quite dodgy advice to continue the lines of communication under the circumstances, and I'd wager that most of my legal friends would completely agree with me.

What would you guys do?

I'd go to the police, and have her charged with trespass. And then I'd have an injunction slapped on her.

Or I would just tell to F Off, and physically remove her from the yard.

BUT, you do mention that another friend is helping you get your mare 'up to scratch'. So perhaps the other friend is right to be concerned?

She sounds unbalanced. You need to act and quickly before she does something to bring the situation to a head that could put your mare at risk. Contact the police and then move yards without telling anyone where you are going. Do it before it is too late.

Re feed, I agree with the suggestions re linseed (make sure it's micronised though!)

Tresspass is a civil matter.

"Up to scratch", meaning provide help with feed. We are inadvertently working together, as I am helping with her own mare that she is struggling with. My mare is putting weight on nicely, just as she should, and vet has approved of this :)

Im curious. Do you have any recent pics of said mare?

I have some somewhere, I'll try and find them. If not, will take some tomorrow and upload :) Checked her today, and in just over a week she has double her size.

The welfare officers (who said person reported me to weeks ago, for not getting what she wants) checked her over a day or so ago, and said there were no concerns whatsoever! She has had all shoes taken off, and is now being rested over the winter months. If anything, she is one of the fatter horses at the yard.

All yard members are now aware of the situation, and all are on my side, and are willing to take necessary action if she comes near either of us, or steps on the yard without a certified reason. Unfortunately yard owner has gone away, but she too will be made aware.
