The pictures on http://team-teke.co.uk/miscellaneous.html show draw rein abuse on the showground at a national event: a horse ridden solely with a draw rein through a long-shanked western curb, the rider's weight thrown back as far as possible to give maximum leverage. The horse's distress is evident.

Comments, please! In particular, can anyone identify the sponsor featured on the saddlecloth?

Photos are too small to get a clear picture, I would say the rider looks quite light in her hands in the first photo. Not a fan of draw reins but equally not a fan of a witchhunt

That. ^^^

Yes, rider is leaning back, but "The rider's weight is thrown back as far as possible to give maximum leverage" ??? If you're looking at the first picture making that comment, you're on a different planet to me. There's no contact there at all.

This - although I have worked out who the sponsor (and I think the rider) is I think that either you raise it with officials outside of here, or let it lie. They are photos of 3 moments in time, the horse is not as distressed as I was expecting and your link to your website is possibly skating a thin line on advertising...

They're not draw reins. And it took me 30 seconds to identify the sponsor.

Whilst not my cup of tea, I can't see any 'abuse' going on.

I am not a fan of draw reins in general, but don't think these are and thought the overall picture wasn't bad. The hands look quite light and I didn't think that the horse looked in distress. Sorry, I can't see it.

Horse doesn't look distressed to me, is barely over bent and his mouth is not opening in protest.

What on earth are you making a fuss about?

Worked out sponsor as local business and thinking local venue. Seen worst native pony showing. Don't like draw reins but suspect with professionals they have a place but I would be wary of using myself without help.

It's Never acceptable (or safe ) to use a draw rein without a normal rein .
The rein appears to be threaded through a curb .
Not really a constructive was to train.

What about all the getting a professional in to get them working properly from behind? Call me a novice but that poor horse looks strapped and pulled down in front!

I was expecting a hell of a lot worse! Horse is really no more over bent than one often sees.

Agree with others that these photos should not be online as you have addressed the problem with the show secretary.

This is just as someone else noted a 'witch hunt'

Curious that the OP is so outspoken about horses being strapped in/BTV, yet there are multiple pictures on that site of (presumably their own) horses in the showring - very much BTV.

If you blow pics up you can see the horses mouth is open. Don't know anything about western riding but horse does not look very happy.
Just because worse things May go on does not excuse it.
I would agree tho it's not fair to put pics on internet if it's been reported and is under investigation.

There are much much worse pictures floating about than that! One I saw from Great Yorkshire the other week where a certain coloured horse was being worked in with the snaffle rein tied loosely over the neck and the rider was hauling purely on the curb rein. The horse was basically in rolkur with its mouth as wide open as its noseband would allow.

If you blow pics up you can see the horses mouth is open.

It's not even open wide enough to see the tiniest glimpse of its teeth. No horse keeps its mouth clamped shut all the time. But all horses being treated as described in the opening post show their teeth.

I'm not in agreement with how the horse is being ridden, but it doesn't bear any resemblance to the description the OP gives.
