Well, I've just been to walk the intro and the ground is pretty terrible. Not so bad where there's a lot of grass cover but a lot of it is concrete.

Also for those that know it, they've put a flower box jump just before the water on that hard-standing!!!

I (and others that followed me) expressed concern and asked if they were at least going to sand the take off and landing, but I was told no. Allegedly the hard standing cuts up after a bit.......not much use for people like me who are the first to go.

If they don't take this out I can't see a lot of people running xc, it's ridiculous. The ground's bad enough as it is without situating a jump on the hard core!

Be interested to hear other people's views....

Talk to your rider rep in the morning.

I never even thought of doing that, cheers, will do

Interesting! If you read their course description they pride themselves on their ground care! They are also changing times on Sun, the BDWP section lists has a note saying it is due to withdrawls. Some of the original times on Sun were very late.

Blimey. Thought you were going to say wet/boggy.

I walked the course today with my boyfriend who is running tomorrow. He had exactly the same thoughts about the ground. As we are local he has decided to go and do the dressage and sj and is going to withdraw from the xc.
With what it cost to enter these events it's unfair that they don't have to disclose this to the riders before the actual event starts.

That is such a shame, I'm running second to last novice section on monday, is there any chance the ground would have sofened up by then because of all the other horses on it?

This is mine and my horses 1st novice and I wanted it to be a nice one!!

Only last week it was good to soft at Draycott House when the pc champs were on. It must dry out really quickly, have you had no rain down there???
We really liked the courses tho', what a shame about the going.

Well I've just got back and did ride. They've been watering it overnight so it actually rode ok (apart from the bit on the hardcore which we trotted).

The SJ warm-up is pretty horrid though still.

However I've just heard there's torrential rain forecast for tomorrow afternoon.....that will be nice!

I have been with a friend this morning, and upon arriving I was "waw, this is a lovly looking event." I was really imprssed with th layout and presntation of the dressage, SJ and xc...but the ground really did let it down unfortunately. I appreciate a lot of work goes into prparing for an event ( I know as I'm quite invloved with on event here) but the ground was awfully hard. We didn't go XC... thought twice about SJ. With a youngster that often jumps green it wasn't worth the pressure on the joints - thr's always another day. It was disappointing though as we left at 4.30 this morning and it was quite a way for us. I really hop something is sorted as I'm hoping to start eventing again next year and would love to do Draycott..providing they can guarantee better going.

Oh I really hope it rains by monday then,...but not too much!!! Hope it'll be good, I don't want to jump on hard ground, horse doesn't enjoy it much and its our 1st novice!!! So would like it to all run smoothly!!

How did you get on HHM?

Don't worry by the sounds of the weather forecast there will be plenty of rain!
We went today and only did the dressage and showjumping. The ground was very disappointing, especially as they advertise they have all this equipment to keep the going good. I know they can't control the weather, but does this equipment actually work? Looking at the ground today I would say no it doesn't.

Shadow was a star, numpty mother here got a bit complacent and forgot what her legs were for as S was backing off the 4th fence

She stormed round it after that (despite losing a shoe at the 5th which I didn't realise

)

Draycott do usually get the ground good, I honestly think having the PC champs there in that weather ruined it, and there's not been enough time in between for it to recover.

Cool, many thanks!

Luckily her foot hadn't broken up at all which surprised me and the rather cute farrier put it back on straight away (and she was still sound.............)

Shame I'm at a local show tomorrow otherwise I probs would have gone down to watch as draycott is a stones throw from me. It has been pretty dry down here, alot of grey skys but not much rain. Though a warning to all competing- it is scheduled to piss it down at 4pm

Great!

Have just been to Draycotts' web site, Ground Prep its worth a look, apparently the are better prepared than some 4*s. . . . . . Burghley could be fun depending on the weather!!!!
Sorry but if the ground is as bad a people are saying how can this information be put on a web site and on BE's course description its very misleading.

Lol...the farrier was rather yummy wasn't he?! We were parked right opposite him and I was sat eating my lunch and now I'v clicked it was you and yr little grey that was there! So hello!!!
