Dreadful sad news and a warning about magnets

We got news a week ago that one of our litter had died at just 6 months of age.
Her new family are heartbroken as we are too.
They think she got some tiny magnets from a kids toy (they don't have kids but had been at some relatives and the children were playing with the puppy)
By the time she showed any sign of trouble it was too late and the magnets had perforated her gut and caused peritonitis.
I found an article about the dangers of magnets, problem being if there are more than one then they attract each other and don't pass through. Injuries were likened to gunshot wounds internally.
So please, please be careful of your fridge magnets and things.
And please don't be judgemental, the family are suffering terribly from guilt as well as loss.

And our perfect little brood of 12 is now 11......

So sorry for your and Nell's owners loss.
Doesn't help that we all know, that we can't protect them against everything all the time, when something happens, it still tends to feel as if we should. I'm sure it was just an accident, or at worst caused by not knowing better, and it's horrible that it had such tragic consequences for them and Nell.

I did know about that this could happen, and my sisters children are well aware about not putting any of their (or the ones we have for them here) magnetic toys in their, my dogs or cats mouth, but thank you for the warning, because it's so easy to become "home-blind" and forget that these things can happen.

what a horrible thing to happen and I am so sorry for your loss and Nell's family too. Poor girl. I have to say I don't allow magnets in my home but only because I am worried they will mess up the computer, or dvd etc - I never even thought about the damage they could do to a dog if they ate two. Such a sad thing to happen x
