Is moving an option - you are obviously not happy and you are a paying customer so you should be receiving a service that suits your needs.

What a bum feeling to dread going up to where ur horse is.

Where on earth are you - that sounds awful!!!. Surely there is some where else you could go - you'll often find happy little yards hidden away by word of mouth that don't advertise.

Oh poor you!!!

Has the YO explained why there is no turnout? Seems very odd.

Think you do need to look for a new yard! Sounds like a lot a jealousy and cliques. I had to move from a yard once due to the awful people and believe me they made my life hell.

It's not worth it, you need to enjoy your horse, and honestly, how can you do that with No turnout!!! Horses need to go out!

Coupled with the attitude of the others I think IMHO that a move would be the best thing.

Don't let it get you down though, people like that love to feed on others!!!

Start looking for a new yard right away. Why would you tolerate this? My old horse didnt like going out, she would have happily lived in permanently, but even she got more than 2 hours a week - thats just not right !

I cannot beleive your YO has any customers, I can understand limited turn out in the depth of muddy winter, but not now. You cant keep any young horse inside all the time, in fact any horse for that matter, they need freedom and fresh air. Where in the country are you? And as for those on the yard ignoring you, they arent worth your breath, they obviouisley dont care for there horses like you do or they would be trying to do somthing about it like you.

I'm sure that there are people on here that can suggest good livery yards with facilities AND turnout!

You can't be expected to pay good money for that sort of yard, especially when you have to suffer the people as well!!

Keep your chin up, you will find something better, and you deserve better

If a livery yard can't offer any turnout then it is on the verge of acting illegally, unless they take steps to ensure that every horse gets some outside time EVERY day??

I think if you pushed a legal argument you could say that they (the livery yard) are not fit for purpose.

Might be worth looking on the DEFRA website (and you do have to look quite hard but it is there) at the new government charter for looking after horses. Alternatively pick up the phone and ask for some advice from the WHW.

Obviously you have to move, but I would still try and push a point for the sake of other horses on the yard!! It is not acceptable to any animal confined in a small stable indefinitely.

I read your post last night and I've caught up this morning.

You are PAYING for this, this is supposed to be your hobby and enjoyment, you certainly don't sound like you are enjoying ANYTHING about this yard.

Get the horses off that yard asap. Go to any yard it may not have posh indoor stables or a smart menage but I can guarantee that within a few days that heavy weight you have on your shoulders will lift. Write a list of the things that you find most important in your case I would suggest its an area you can school your youngster and decent turn out.
The place you find now doesn't have to be forever, it could just be a 'stop gap' whilst you look for something which suits you even more.

5 years ago I was on a yard which seriously made me want to give up riding. Like yours it had the wonderful facilities but I was so unhappy. I used to get in from the yard and cry.
I moved my horse to a yard which was supposed to temporary until I found something more suitable.......5 years on I'm still there and can't imagine ever leaving.
My stables certainly wouldn't win any beauty prizes, we can't jump in the menage and the jumping paddock we have is on a slope and rutted...BUT my horse is the happiest and healthiest he has ever been and it is *THE* most unbitchiest yard ever. I recently, very sadly lost a baby at 4.5 months and the support and help I've had from EVERYONE on my yard has been amazing. There are lovely yards out there, they may not be 'posh' but who cares when you get to enjoy your horses again and make some brill horsey friends

NO turnout?!! WTF?! Your poor horse, that is unacceptable in April IMO. How long is the 'no turnout' thing meant to go on for?
And they all sound like ignorent sods, why are they ignoring you? What are you supposed to have done?

:hugs: hun, can only imagine what it must be like :shudders: x

LOL is that for real? The government are starting to tell us how we should look after our horses?!

I have no issue with 24 hour stabling and I find it worrying if there really is some sort of half assed legislation that says a livery yard is not fit for purpose if it doesn't put all horse's out for a defined lenght of time each and every day!

Some horse are worth too much money to put out, some fight and are a danger to themselves when put out, some just don't like being out. I don't think anyone can say every horse in the UK should go out every day no matter what.

What about eventers that travel all season, you saying the owner/rider is negligent if they don't turn them out every day, side of the motorway, petrol stations whatever so long as the horse gets some grass? The government going to send the police along to arrest these people if they don't do so?

If you want turn out find a yard that does turn out but don't slag off a yard for not providing it, many people don't need or use turn out.

To the OP if you really don't like the yard and the other liveries don't like you then you just have to find somewhere new. Horse's are too expensive to keep to be miserable.

I know that you have the issue with the sharer for your other horse, but surely she would travel a bit further if you could find somewhere?

You said yourself yesterday how happy your youngster was since he's been away and been turned out like a normal horse, and ok, so you may not be able to find somewhere with the same facilities, but surely your horses mental well-being has to be a priority?

As far as I'm concerned, keeping a healthy horse in 24/7 is cruelty, and I don't understand why your whole yard isn't up in arms about it.

Horses cost far too much for us to keep them without enjoying them so bite the bullet and move. If you lose your sharer, then that's just the price you'll have to pay - but it's not a bad price if it means that you can walk onto a yard and happily speak to people, and know that your horses are living normally in field - not in a stable in the middle of April!

thanks for all the replies....right...am in ROCHDALE! (Lancs) so get your yard thinking caps on!

I do have a couple of temp options for turnout if can't get something sorted (thanks Charlies Army) but still trying to get hold of YO- in his defence its possible that he's been fertilising or something today- was just annoyed as no note up on board or anything...

people don't talk to me coz they don't like me...simple. doesn't especially bother me if they don't like me but its the fact that they slag off my riding/horses that pees me off....i don't take their half-assed advice about what i should be doing and so they stopped talking to me and started slagging me off! how rude!!

right- yard requirements (in an ideal world):
- decent arena- can be windswept or whatever but need somewhere to bring baby on so not one that freezes/floods every two minutes. also need to be able to access arena (i know some yards have great arena but can never get in it)

- trailer parking- don't mind paying but have no drive so trailer has to stay at yard

- turnout (of any variety- i don't even care if its in a sand paddock- just somewhere to play out in at least every other day)

- decent tackroom/storage space (i have a very small house!!)

- preferably not a riding school (please don't jump on me...just not my scene
wink.gif
) i also don't really like hoardes of kids (yes i'm a teacher
smirk.gif
) but don't mind under 18s if they are well behaved....

- be able to have own trainer, vet and farrier and be able to come and go as i want (no silly opening times)

- nice, friendly people. i compete but don't expect everyone to/ look down on those who don't

i really don't think thats too unreasonable?!! any suggestions greatfully received!
