Dreading selling my mare because of buyers

When we sold our Irish Cob 2 years ago I asked prospective purchasers for videos of their riding - everybody was only too happy to send them - after all youre providing lots of photos & videos to them & if anybody objected well their not looking at the best interests of your horse & therefore its their loss not yours that way you can hopefully rule out some of the time wasting - she does look a cracking mare too & very sought after height.

You need to ask questions of the buyer, this is something that I have noticed as a buyer which is seriously missing!
I volunteer my riding ability, and I probably overshare a bit. But I usually say something along the lines that:

  • I have owned various horses for the past three decades so I'm a competent and responsible lady.
  • I have a stable held for me on the yard where I have been a livery for the past two decades with a great support network
  • I used to compete unaffiliated dressage up to elementary and SJ up to 1m as well as hack out for many hours on my own. Does the horse hack out on its own?
  • I am very out of practice due to not riding my current horse which was missold me and is now at retirement
  • I am a bit unfit and also a bit overweight so need something with a bit of bone.
  • At the moment I am a bit of a nervous rider because I've not done a great deal recently so I am looking for a horse who is an honest type and that isn't spooky. Does this sound as if your horse would be a good match?
  • I will be investing in regular lessons this time around and as well as hacking on my own I want to SJ and dressage again and do some fun rides.
  • It must be open to vet and x-rays and not have any vices or pre-existing medical conditions. Does this sound like your horse would fit this criteria?
  • Just so you know, if the horse is what I am looking for it will have a home for life with suitable turnout and living conditions
I will adapt the above according to how much the seller has stated in the advert or have told me over the phone or even if they sound like they give a stuff.
I ensure that I am as honest as I can be especially with my riding ability. Just because I used to do it doesn't necessarily mean I can do it again and I try and put that across during my initial call/text!

I hope nobody asks this of me as I cannot provide this as I haven't got any videos of me riding for about six years and have no access to anything to ride to prove it now. However I have tonnes of photos.
