Long time lurker, first time poster!

I’ve had a search through the older posts but I can’t find an exact answer so hopefully someone can answer me...

I’ve entered my mare in our first show jumping competition & I’m not sure what to wear. It’s a low level, unaffiliated event and the point of it is to get experience; so as long as we make any bit of an effort I don’t think the organizers will have an issue – but I feel dressing properly adds to the occasion and (hopefully) this will be the first of many. I’m an adult woman & in my riding wardrobe I’ve both a black (lightweight) jacket and a tweed hacking jacket. Which would be more correct? Then, should it be stock/white shirt and tie/high collar white show shirt without stock or tie or does that depend on if I go black or tweed? For jodhpurs I was going to go cream & wear long black boots.

For herself, I was going to use our brown GP/jumping tack with a white square saddle pad & plait her mane but leave her tail loose (pulled neatly) – would this be ok or should I plait her tail too?

Thanks for reading, back to other prep for us now ;)

I'd go for black jacket, shirt and tie for you and if her tail is pulled I wouldn't plait it. Generally as long as you are smart and safe you would be fine. Some people may even be in smart jumpers or waterproof jackets :)
Good luck!

Black jacket and show shirt with collar, mane and tail neatly pulled. You don't have to plait but if you want to then she would look very smart.
Tbh anything goes though, you could wear the stock and tweed and still look fine :).

Fab! Thanks. I think I'll plait the mane, it's something I like doing and it's time for us to spend together.
I'll go with the black jacket, should I go white tie or coloured?

It's quite exciting, bit nervous - she's more a hunter so even though she loves to jump and we've done a lot of prep over poles in the past few weeks, I think she might find it all terribly exciting when she gets in the ring. It'll be all about keeping her calm, I think it'll be really good for both of us - hopefully!

I would go for the black jacket with a plain stock or the collar. Save the shirt and tie for the days you want to wear the tweed if you want to be really correct.

Tweed or black/navy is perfectly acceptable.

If her mane is neat then just leave it - or if its a bit untidy then bob some plaits in if you really want to look smart.

Besides worrying what to wear the main thing is is to go and enjoy yourselves. Keep calm and dont forget to breathe! good luck x
