As some of you are aware im hoping to be in France this time next year with my girl in foal.
I have thought briefly about potential sires but not seriously yet. What would you guys recommend? My girl is in my sig, she is trakehner x KWPN. She is by VaTout out of a mare by Nabuur so some lovely lines. She is 16.3hh and has plenty of bone. I like the bigger warmbloods and don't find her too big for me so don't mind going a bit larger. The foal would be for me to keep and ride, as if all goes well the mare will be going back in foal.
Any suggestions?

Do you want something chunkier, or similar? As in KWPN or Trakhener?

I love Samba Hit III - http://www.schockemoehle.com/s66581.html - hes my next choice for Blossy.

It does depend how much you can afford to spend, as theres painted black or sandro hit (if you're really rich!!) I also love Gribaldi but you have to be careful what you put him to, so not sure if he would suit your mare or not.

I could go on for hours and hours about different stallions!!

As P_G said, its somewhat dependent upon what you want to spend :|

Ive always loved him:-

Although P_G already mentioned him

Not necessarily careful as i think hes a fantastic horse - he can throw on the larger side foals as hes quite big boned, so he'd need to go to a finer mare (hence i didnt use on Blossy) ive heard trainability/rideabilty he can be quite difficult - but obviously Ed Gal has the nack of him as hes doing fantastically well with him now.

Im willing to spend quite a bit for her first foal as i intend on getting the benefit out of him/her.
I also love Painted Black, saw him last year and was blown away by his ability at such a young age. I really like Negro too, such an imposing horse.
I've seen a couple of Gribaldi's that i have been very impressed with.
What do you think about Krack C?

im not too keen on Krack C, personally i dont like his neck, i think its too short for his body! Thats a personal opinion tho. Hes also quite feisty - perhaps not the greatest for your mare?

BH - Im not sure about Ferro, i know hes sired lots of top horses, it depends how much of a 'dressage baby' you want, i havent heard of many of his progeny at the top......

Sir Donnerhal is a proper stunner - amazing paces, super trainability, scope to burn, jumps amazingly aswell!!

I also really like Damon Hill - he has a lovely straight hind leg action and is very correct through his paces. Ive got the DVD with them all on at home. And some of them altho they have fantastic breeding the movement and correctness just isnt there for me.

He looks quite nice. Im not really a Donnerhall fan myself but i suppose the Sandro Hit line could cancel it out!
If i had all the money in the world i would set up a huge stud and use all of them and keep all the stunning babies for myself!!

Sir Donnerhal is definately the nicest one i looked at, unfortunately avaliabilty for him over here is quite slim as he is one of the most popular dressage stallions in the world now!

Some of them have serious attitude, but they have the talent to burn and if you can be patient with them they are fantastic horses. My friends Grade A showjumper is by Donnerhal and he was also runner up in the shearwater national 5yrold class when he was younger (hes 9 now). But his paces are amazing and so is his jump. It took her a long time to get to grips with him and he wasnt easy - but once she'd got it sorted he truley is fantastic.

Yea was just mentioning it. Tbh though.. how many stallions do you hear of who dont have *some* progency that people say "ive heard they're grumpy / feisty / difficult to train" etc

Oh god i don't think i need anything else that could be difficult!!!!!!
I need a stallion like a lap dog if he's gonna improve my mare's attitude!

I think the three I like at the minute are Painted Black, Sir Donnerhall and Ferro in that order. But it would depend on the mare, and which combination would work best. Not looking until next breeding season though but have started a little fund already

If anyone can recommend any more stallions then I'd love to hear it

oooo and P_G I love those sites, have been drooling over them!

id say call those people as you want to make sure they match your mare tlel them what you like then they will tell you out of that what would work !!

they are really experienced !!!

Sando Hit is just jaw dropping.

I think as I'm not looking to breed until next year I'm going to take my time, watch videos and try to find out how their offsping are temprement and ability wise. It'll keep me busy for the next year anyway

See thats the thing, she needs one thats going to be laid back - which with well bred stallions you arent going to get tbh. All of them are going to be feisty to some extent.

Luckily i didnt have that problem with Bloss as shes not at all feisty in anyway and is generally very laid back - hence i could chose a stallion to compliment her conformational faults and not her temperment (which i think is a lot harder!)

I also like Painted Black and he would certainly be a contender if I was to put Hannah in foal again in the future. I like everything about him, and he is fine enough for a horse like Hannah.

I used Pro-Set because I wanted something finer than most of the stallions I was looking at during the first few months of the search. I looked at Tyson and Donnersong but I kept going back to TB types. However, I needed something that would not be too hot headed as Hannah is hot enough already (even though she is TBxID). Pro-Set ticked all the boxes for me, so I think you have to think very hard about your mare's weaknesses and find a stallion with those strengths.
