My horse works better in a loose ring bit but has fleshy lips so wears the rubber bit guards on his bit.

Are the rubber bit guards dressage legal? I'm thinking they are not. :(

Not sure whether to struggle to take them off (then on again when get home) or buy another bit.

The bit is NS team up bit loose ring. To buy another is not cheap so can anyone recommend a bit with a similar mouth piece that is obviously a lot cheaper for dressage use? Wht alternative could i use to the loose ring/bit ring combo? Maybe a full cheek?

Maybe should have thought about this sooner seeing as the test is at the weekend..... opppsss!

have you tried a full cheek? my mare marks on her lips easily but have found since moving to a full cheek snaffle there has been none at all and actually she goes better with a more 'secure' bit :)

If your horse really does work lots better in a loose ring I have seen a bit called a stubben 'golden wings' snaffle. These are DR legal and look a great idea!! Not cheap though :(

Sorry my bad, I thought they were! Bloody daft rule though I have to say!

A full cheek really has cleared the problem up for me. Perhaps if you need something with a bit more 'play' you could maybe try a loose ring fulmer instead?

I would suggest the loose ring Fulmer too and cottage craft do a lot of bits similar to the ns ones but obviously much cheaper. However if the comp is this weekend id be tempted to take rings off your bit rather than change to a new bit so close to the comp, especially if it has a slightly different action
