Dressage at a CIC*

Very simply, can you in a CIC*(short format) wear a tail coat? Never mind the hat, can you wear a long coat? I can't figur it out from the FEI rule book!

You can if you want and enough will. But you don't have to and you won't the only one in a navy jacket. Like wise you can sj in tweed
 
In Ireland top hats are only allowed for 2* and above and only by riders over 18. Id imagine thats an eventing ireland rule as oppose to an FEI one though

Yeah must be. Technically I think you are supposed to wear a normal dark SJ jacket with crash hat/beagler for one star but certainly wearing a tailcoat and top hat is within the rules in the UK. In fact more people tend to ride with the tails/top hat than otherwise.
