Probably a bit indulgant and boring.. so I apologise!

Toddled off to Croft RC today for the Beginners-Prelim 7 class. Anyone else there?

Ponio decided she didn't quite fancy loading, but after a min or two of standing on the ramp decided; okay Mum.. if you say so..
Got there nice and early, went to the loo and decided to watch a test in the indoor. Cue MAJOR panic, I've learned the wrong test..
Checked the boards, nope, its defo prelim 7.. I'm right.. so WTF is she doing in there then?
Checked with some official looking person with a clipboard-not my class! I'm running outdoors! Breathe a huge sigh of relief, and go outside to take off bandages/tack up..complete with pink crystal bling browband courtesy of Santa

Jump on, and the huge 60*20 outdoor is split into two, one half for the beginners class, the other for working in. To say it was manic with horses going in every which direction was an understatement! Small kids in fancy dress, adults on youngsters all milling about. Ponio took exception to them, and wasnt over keen on the idea of going forward from my leg at all... thinking bugger, this is a disaster at this point. Give it a few more mins and I'm praying for a crop to give her a tap with and get her listening..some serious face pulling going on, and a few near misses. Anyone understand left to left or is it me!!?!

Go in, ride my test which went quite nicely. Pony was slightly above the bit and not really soft into the contact-as expected. We are not dressage divas at all, and the working in an outline is alien to her at the min..
Mum called brilliantly.. well, I guess so.. I couldn't hear for the wind so luckily knew my test pretty well.

Ended up on 60% which I was pleased with for a 1st attempt.
Scores were mainly 6's, with a couple of 5's where she looked to the outside and a 7 for my final wander down the centre line (chuffed with that!). Claimed a 7 for her paces and a 6 for my riding (underlined 'effect of the aids'-anyone any ideas?).
Comments were mainly things like; looking to the outside, slightly above bit, quarters in.
Comment at the end;
'Lovely fluent paces, just needs to soften more through to the contact & show more bend around your inside leg-well ridden!'

Very pleased with my budding diva and seriously considering another outing to play at dressage lol!
Cookies & cuddles if you got this far!!

Well done to you both, I'm still trying to pluck up the courage to do my first one, in the new year- probably !!.

Lovely comments too.

Honestly, its not half the crisis I imagined it would be!
If you were closer, I'd recommended going to Croft RC (Its Cheshire) because it was so relaxed.

Seems to go with your report- above the bit, some wandering and inattention? So suspect judge thought your aids not effective enough?

Well done for an excellent score. Sure you'll be more confident and 'effective' next time!

Ah, thank you. I suspected that was the case!
My transisition aids seemed to be quite effective but I probably could have done a bit more to keep her looking more to the inside/where she was going..

Hi

This can be quite a confusing comment, especially if you didn't make mistakes as such, so you didn't miss flying changes, got all of your half pass angles etc, it basically means that the horse was not 100% listening to you, and so your aids were not acted upon by the horse in the way that they should be. So, try to be more definite to your horse.

I am sure you were great, dressage is a learning curve, try to not be put off by a judge's comment, after all, you are riding in front of them for an opinion!
