My horse qualified for two sets of championships on his first dressage outing. I need to put a Biography together to go with the entry form but I have no idea how long this should be? Ideas on types of content welcome too.....

Congratulations on qualifying.

I would put down age height breeding etc, how long you have owned him what you do together etc. A bit about yourself.

Just remember whatever you write down is going to be read out over the tannoy

Thanks!!! It is slightly complicated because I own him but my friend is riding him, so there are 3 of us to consider! I have written about 1/2 side of A4.

This is what I have so far:

Ruben’s Law & Natalie Brown – Biography.

Ruben’s Law (or ‘Mickey’ as he is known at home) is an 11 year old 15.3hh Irish X gelding. He is ridden today by Natalie Brown.

Ruben’s Law is owned by Samantha Mackay. Samantha bought Mickey as a 4 year old from an event yard. In the past, she and Mickey have enjoyed competitive showing together. After Samantha sustained a recent injury, she asked Natalie to introduce Mickey to his first competitive dressage outings.

Natalie is Samantha’s instructor and also looks after Mickey at her livery yard, Barton Field Farm, Near Canterbury.

This is just Mickey’s second dressage competition. He qualified with Natalie for these championships earlier this year at his first outing. In addition, at the same outing, he also qualified for the unaffiliated regional championships at Hickstead in June.

In personality, Mickey is full of character, bold, brave, bright and quick to learn. He loves his work and especially his days out in the trailer. As well as flatwork he has a fondness for jumping and also hacks anywhere and everywhere.

What do you think??

in the biographies at the winter champs, all the riders seemed to have what their ambition was - things like - Win a national championship', 'Train a horse to Grand Prix' - or for the really ambitious 'Ride at the Olympics'!

you need to cut that right down. they'll only have a minute or so to read it out in between you entering the arena and the bell ringing. normally just do vital stats of horse, best recent results, trainer, maybe ambition or future plans for horse and rider - that's it - just a few lines is all you need or the comentator will just read the first few lines and run out of time for the rest.

Thought it must be for Hickstead.

They like things that they can read out to the spectators to make it a bit more interesting, so anything interesting about your horse or yourself is good

I did a biography for the regionals and put too much - it was a huge embarrassment hearing it read out while I trotted round the arena. The other riders also 'apprenticed to XXXXX GP rider' riding horses 'by XXXX out of XXX' dressagy breeding. Won this, that and the other. It made mine sound stupid.

I vowed only to give the basic facts if I ever need to do another one.

Thanks for this Sparklet. It is just difficult to know what kind of content to include when I have never heard many before and have never written one.
I now have:

Ruben’s Law & Natalie Brown – Biography.

Ruben’s Law (or ‘Mickey’ as he is known at home) is an 11-year old 15.3hh Irish X gelding. He is ridden by Natalie Brown and owned by Samantha Mackay.

Mickey was bought as a 4-year old from an event yard. He has since enjoyed competitive showing.

This is only Mickey’s second dressage competition. He qualified, with Natalie, for these championships at his first outing. They have also qualified for the Hickstead championships in June.

In personality, Mickey is full of character, bold, brave, bright and quick to learn. He loves his work and especially his days out competing.

I am afraid I have no grand breeding details to include since I don't have a clue how he was bred!!
