Slight odd one,
Why can u show in a wilkie snaffle but not BD????
Bit behind the times arent they (excuse the pun)

Because a wilkie snaffle has a small gag like effect, it is the same reason why the myler bit with hooks aren't allowed. They both look like snaffles but are actually a disguised mild gag. They both rotate and cause a downward pressure on the mouth and poll.

A hanging cheek snaffle IS allowed and some argue that it has or has not got a gag-like action, in my opinion, it has a very slight action but not enough to make a huge difference and an ordinary snaffle with a thin mouthpiece would probably be more severe in the wrong hands. It is a good bit, I have one horse that loves it, but most of the other horses I have put in go lovely at first then tend to lean on it or go a little on the forehand.
My fave bit is the Neue Schule Tranz Lozenge loose ring snaffle in the 16mm mouthpiece. I have put it in lots of different horses and they have all gone very well in it. It was worth the extra money and looks lovely too!

i switch my pony between a loose ring snaffle & a hanging cheek - it really depends on his mood, but recently he's been going extremely well in his hanging snaffle

for jumping he goes in a dutch gag & i find that it has a similar action to his hanging cheek.

i've never seen the neue schule tranz lozenge, but i do like the sprenger KK Conrad Training Bit, my old horse used to go like a dream in it!
