I have a 16.2hh Danish Warmblood currently training Novice/Elementary who I have been riding in a NS Verbindend. He can be a little inconsistent in the contact and doesn't really give me the feel of taking the contact forwards (he finds it very easy to collect, but when sent forwards has a tendency to drop behind the vertical). I feel like he's finding the Verbindend a bit sharp and he doesn't have the confidence to take a hold of the bit. He can also sometimes be a little bit wobbly on straight lines (he is green for his age and needs to muscle up a little more behind the saddle). I'd quite like to try him in a different bit, as I only bought him last year and that is the only one I've tried him in (He was in a loose ring before I bought him but hadn't been in proper work very long).

Any suggestions of what bits to try him in? One of my trainers suggested just trying him in a thicker version of the current bit (he's in the 12mm Verbindend rather than the 16mm at present), or trying another similar loose ring, whereas another of my trainers has suggested going for something more like an Eggbutt snaffle. I'm willing to try several bits on trial before finding one that he likes, but just wondering what to try first and if anyone else has any particular suggestions as my knowledge of bits is quite limited (I am a fan of the NS bits in general though after seeing how much of a difference they have made to another horse of mine).

I've also dropped an email to the HorseBitBank to ask their advice and he is having his teeth checked next week too.
