Dressage comp and whips

When you are in a dressage test is it vital to swap the schooling/dressage whip over when you change the rein?

Never done it and never been penalised!!!... So certainly wouldn't say it is vital!!!

no I never do, I keep it on mine and pones weak side (one he most likely to fall through)

in face have never seen anyone do this as you change rein quite a lot and would look a bit messy IMO

No, I always keep it in the same hand, it distracts me in my test if I change it.

Have seen it done with great expertise, hardly noticeable it was so slick. I don't change hands as not that proficient, only have to remember to salute with opposite hand to whip.

Horse currently undergoing 'boot camp' treatment, schooling with a whip in both hands as he is so idle off my leg - at least it worked well when trainer got on him last night.
