I have entered a trailblazers dressage comp at the weekend and I know for a fact that the warm up arena is under water. I have asked if its cancelled but its still going ahead just without a warm up. Do you think they should refund the entry fee or should you be expected to forfeit it if you decide not to go due to no warm up?
Hope that makes sense!

You should call them and ask them what they are intending to use as a warm up - you cannot expect horse or rider to go striaght into a test without a warm up first. If they cancel the competition, then they should refund your money - but often competitions keep a small fee back for "admin". If you choose not to attend, then you will loose your entry fee, as they will only refund on presentation of vets or Dr's certificate. Otherwise - have a look on the Trailblazers website and see if there is a main contact on there that you can speak to - I cant see how they can run a competition without a warm up.

That's an absolute sh** for you! they cannot make you do it without warm up, I reckon either they should give another bit of an arena for warm up or it's definitely money back.

I once entered an affiliated dressage competition- it was last march when we had all the snow. There was snow all over the M4 and they were saying not to drive unless you have to etc. School under snow etc and I called to get refund or entries carries over and they said they werent cancelling and so they were not prepeared to do either so I lost my money. I thought it was unfair and their entries must have been really low and no one could get there but they kept the dosh!

Hi

I don't know where you would stand on this. If it were Duchie and I who were due to compete and it was at novice level and close to home I would probably give him half an hours warm up at home then walk him around at the comp before competing. However, for a test higher than novice it would be very unhealthy for the horse not to warm up properly so I would withdraw regardless of whether I got my money back or not.

A warm up at home then hacking about the venue (with a rug) for twenty mins should be ok, not ideal, but not dangerous.
