Thinking about doing an elementary level test for the first time in a while and my friend said she thought the rules had changed on sitting trot i.e. that it isn't mandatory any more. Is she correct?
Many thanks

what BM said, and also most judges would prefer a good rising trot that allows the horse to swing and work over its back than a poorly executed sitting trot done because the rider thinks it's the done thing.

Not that I'm saying you can't sit, OP, but for many of us that aren't olympic riders, horses tend to work better in rising trot :o In fact even CDJ herself has done rising trot at elementary so perhaps there's hope for the rest of us after all :D :D :D

When I was young, sitting trot came so easily. Not now!

In fact I dread it! I can’t even keep myself in the plate in canter!!

depends on your horse a lot, too :) My WB is easy to sit to all the time. The welsh is like riding a jackhammer until she is properly forward and soft.
