I am about to buy this girth for my horse as her dressage saddle currently slips forward, due to a big barrel belly and a very forward girth groove and hopefully this will help!
What size girth should I get her?
She is a 16.1KWPN mare, the one in my sig infact.
Not overly deep, doesn't have huge wide shoulders. It sounds bad but I have never actually bought a girth before. Saddles I have bought have always just come with a girth that fits

*Disclaimer* - The saddle has been checked, and it fits bar the girth groove. She has a barrel belly, no real shoulder and big chunky withers so nothing stopping the saddle slipping forward. If the girth and saddle sit correctly on her, the girth is sat on her belly as opposed to girth groove

It's difficult to guess, so what i did was take a piece of baling twine, put the saddle on the horse, measure roughly where the girth will fasten on each side with the twine then take said twine to the tack shop with you!
Obviously you could use a tape measure...but at the time i didnt have one with me! :D

Also my 16.1hh Anglo Arab x Warmblood is in a 22" :)

A standard rule of thumb is that you need a dressage girth that is 20 inches shorter than your long girth - so for a horse who takes a 48 inch girth you would look for a 28 inch dressage girth. Be careful you don't get one too short so the buckles are near the elbows - a longer one will be more stable with a horse with a forward girth groove.

Sorry no help on the sizing but I have a dressage saddle for my super wide chunky monkey, and my saddler reccommend a "banana" style girth. I have a really expensive leather Torsion one, but the difference it made was amazing. Not slipping round or forward. It was definately worth the investment!:D

Thank, my friend (who knows my tack better then I do :eek)) has told me I will need a 24" :D

Chickeninabun -
1) your name is amazing :D
2) good to know the girth made a difference. I was having trouble cantering my mare and it turns out my saddle is slipping forward onto her shoulders, poor dear! So I was reccomended this girth, hope it works! :D

Thank you thank you!:D
My mare had a GP saddle and it was just sat right on her shoulders. She seems much happier now she has a dressage saddle. Plus we do all sorts in it, dressage, hacking, jumping, fun rides, 20km Trec competitions!! I love my dressage saddle!:)
