Horse is currently in a fairfax saddle and a leather shaped girth which is a local saddler's version of a Fairfax (but no prolite and it does have elastic). I like it but it has cracked and split (noticed today) so I'm looking for a replacement. Horse is also quite sensitive to rubs so we have a sheepskin sleeve in the winter when she's clipped.

Have been looking at various anatomical girths but there are so many options! Tempted by a fairfax as I love my saddle but unsure about the lack of elastic?

Horse is a chunky, wide warmblood cross (so a bit of a barrel!) so the curved shapes seem to suit her.

Any reviews or recommendations (or ones to avoid) welcome!

Funnily enough I just had a saddler out to fit my Fairfax saddle and she said for horses with a forward girth groove, the girths are rubbish. My connie has a very forward girth groove and quite sprung ribs and she said it just wouldn't suit at all. She recommended for me a cheap as chips Wintec chafeless girth and I'm so far totally sold - it might not look as pretty as my saddle but it suits him like a dream, is quick to clean, and hasn't rubbed his sensitive skin at all. I was a bit taken aback when she wouldn't recommend the girth to match, as I was prepared to shell out the money, but I was glad I asked and had a saddler who wouldn't just take the money and run!

I've got the Wintec chafeless on all my saddles for both horses. Spent loads on a lovely Equipe leather stud girth and Prolites but neither worked so back to the cheap old faithful.

Either Mattes or Christ Lamfelle shaped girths- lovely quality sheepskin so good for sensitive types and several different shapes

I love my Fairfax. Even on my flat backed forward girth groove welsh cob I don't need to girth up tightly so I wouldn't worry about the lack of elastic, it seems the shape of the girth does a lot to hold the saddle in place.

Have a look at the new Collegiate anatomical girth. I got the long version for a horse with a forward girth groove and I'm so impressed with it I'm going to get him the dressage version too. It's wide, padded and the inside is 'waffled' so it helps prevent sweat. So far no rubs and it's stopped the issue I had with my saddle sliding back.

Bonus that they are under £50 too.
