After much deliberation, I have just treated my horse to a new dressage saddle. Having got over the shock of how much to cost :)eek::oops::eek::oops:) I now need a new girth to go with it, because my only "short" girth is too long. But I'm now totally bewildered by the variety of shapes, ergonomic design, anatomical shapes, padding, gel inserts, straps, elastic or no elastic, fluffy lining or not????? ..... o_O

Help!! Can anyone offer any words of wisdom about what to chose (or not) and/or recommendations for something which would work.

My horse is a wide Irish cob type mare, with a deep body shape, a wide front and good shoulders if any of that is relevant. Thanks for any sanity and clarity you lovely people can offer.

Will the old girth do up tight enough? If it will still do up, it's not too long, the current biometric advice is to get the buckle as close to the bottom of the flap as you can.

Yes, and the buckles are close the bottom edge of the flap on both sides. If that's the case, then the current one is the correct length??? .... maybe I shouldn't hit the budget any harder and stick with the one I've got. :)

Yep, according to Centaur Biomechanics who have done a lot of testing. It's one of the reasons Fairfax test well, their recommendation is to fit them longer.
