Tips needed on improving collective marks!!

I have been working hard with my ex BSJA pony - and gradually turning him into quite a nice dressage pony, but I am getting stuck on 6's for rider position / results in most tests.

Interestingly - when we first started doing dressage, he used to be such a horror and would jog / go round with his head in the air / ignore me etc and earned his show name 'asbo pony' - our dressage scores were pretty rubbish, but my collectives were in the 7's. I often got comments such as 'well ridden / quitely ridden' etc - I think because the judges could see he was a difficult pony to ride.

Now he is going so much better in tests - but still takes a lot of 'riding' if that makes sense. I'm working hard to get him going so well but its not reflected in my collectives??

Any ideas / tips etc?? I have lessons every week - so will talk to my instructor too, but we mainly work on his way of going, rather than mine!

Have some lunge lessons and improve your position if it worries you but tbh the collective mark normally matches the rest of the test and doesn't seem to reflect your riding (unless the horse looks really hard to ride)

What sort of marks do you get in the rest of the test?

the collectives will be made up of the majority of marks given to you during your test, for example if you get 6's and 7's throughout your test your collective marks will be 6's and 7's too.

It's infuriating I know, my ex boyfriend and I had totally different riding styles but were both given 6 for our riding, even tho I was much better than him.... and on a more difficult horse!

Mainly 6's and 7's.

I wasn't sure how it worked. I've seen people who are all over the place / bouncing around etc who get the same marks as me.

Oh well :)
